I recall the "ladies" in final fight caused some guys at my arcade to do a double take when they saw the hotpants and handcuff character designs.

There were stores in the 80s that had the ault humror section, adult card games, and gag gifts. The atari games were like those. That stuffs not actually meant for fapping, it is meant to be "naughty" and it was mostly tame stuff.

Yea a lot of the concept art was nice. Sadly by the time people outside of Japan even heard of DQ3 the arcades were full of SF2 with chun li and other fighting game girls.

Console waifus really surged in Japan with the PC engine CD-ROM and PC-88/98 ports of adult games and VNs.

Plus non adult titles like Cotton still delivered the service.

Only a handful of the tamer "japanimation" games came out on the TG16 here but I remember the naked girl in Y's showing up in gamer magazines. EGM always teased us with lewd "coming soon" ecchi games that never materialized.

I've never seen a single piece of Toriyama's promo art for Dragon Quest in Nintendo Power. At least not when they were publishing the NES versions (I can't speak for the later GBC and Nintendo DS versions since I stopped reading NP by that point).

Yea Nintendo power usually ran with western art for the dragon warrior games. A poster of pic related was on the wall of my game room in the early 90s. I loved that priestess.
