I've heard that using one of those in public is code for homo sex.

What did he mean by this?
curious about these too, more specifically, how's the d-pad and buttons, and do the games run on hardware or is it emulation? And has has anyone experienced any glitches in certain games?
You can get a real GBC for pretty cheap. Even if it's a beat up one you can replace the casing and screen. You also don't get a screwed up aspect ratio

Can't backlight a gameboy colour though. Best option is the GBA SP. I mean, I use a gamecube gameboy player with scart out to a framemeister, but that's not really a great solution.

First thing I noticed too. And now the only thing I care about in the photo.
From what I've read, the D-pad is a bit rigid, and the screen isn't the correct aspect ratio. I'm not sure what the latter translates to. Awkward pixel scaling?
I have one, the screen stretch isn't noticeable in standard play, the only game I really noticed it was in Mario & Yoshi. The D-Pad isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be, the only game I've had some issue in is Magical Drop and that's only because that shit gets intense. In games like Warioland, or Donkey Kong Land 2/3 it's surprisingly fine. My one actual gripe about the device is that the screen scratches so easily.
