Because the mouse was pretty much DOA in the US. I mean, my SNES came with one, but the only game I had that used it was Mario Paint.

Just import it after you cut the region tabs off of your SNES if you want to play it.

Well, let's take a look at Mario Paint sales around the globe:

North America: 1.43m (51.9% of all units)
Europe: 0.54m (19.6%)
Japan: 0.71m (25.9%)
Rest of the World: 0.07m (2.6%)
= Global 2.75m

So looks like the peripheral wasn't exactly a failure. But maybe mid-1993 was a little too late for a new game for it, or Nintendo simply didn't have enough faith in it..

I remember emulating this after I heard about it. It was surprisingly hard, I imagine using the shitty SNES mouse made it even harder.
