Was this game actuallyshit?
Well it's an N64 game, so...
Does that answer you're question?

>writing off an entire console's library
no, it was like, the best n64 rpg ever made
>>3651425
no thats earfbound 64
Honestly? It was k.
That's just really it. "k".
It was a grind fest, you ended up just power leveling earth and water, The story really wasn't that interesting or engaging. But it wasn't broken, impossibly hard, or had cheese moments. If you like dull and repetitive RPG's it's right up your alley.
If not, Ogre Battle 64 is much much better.
I tried to play it a few years ago and got a headache from the camera movement.

paper mario
I actuallydidn't hate it
It was a 4/10 RPG for it's time
It wasn't completely unplayable but it had 1 character, minimal story, no economy or shops, no game overs, no side quests, no armor/equipment
what were the other quest games like

I remember when I first tried this back when I barely played actual RPG's and I thought the music and first area were nice and it seemed to have some charm.
It's been at my local used game shop lately, but I've never felt like buying it however.I lost my job, so probably not buying any vidya for a while now, anyway
I actually really enjoyed this game as a kid, I also beat it again this year (28 now) and my opinion hasn't changed. There's something about the barren world and lack of NPC that makes the whole game charming and eerie at the same time if that makes any sense. The soundtrack is pretty fucking dope too. I think if they fleshed out the battle system (not that it's bad) and put more production/time into the game itself a remake would be pretty neat.

However with that being said, I can totally see why people wouldn't like the game.
It was kind of shit, kind of okay.
Gameboy version was great though.

I did fucking love the way the turn-based attack+movement worked, with where you attack one turn affecting your potential range of movement in the next. I wish other games had a similar system, but other than the GBC remake I can't think of any.
It is THE game if running through empty corridor after corridor is your idea of fun.

I totally agree, Although, I swear you could almost dodge every single attack if you got really good at predicting each enemy's attack. Also, Wind was way overpowered especially during end game when you had the ability to null damage for 3-5 rounds.

The only reason I played it was bc I was super hyped for Ocarina of Time and one of the things that had me excited was the day and night cycle. That seemed like such a big deal at the time. Anyways, Quest 64 had a day and night cycle and that was my attempt to get a little of what I craved from the new Zelda. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

I played it years later, and it's very barebones to the point where it's just dreadfully dull.
>>3651398
i enjoyed it, i also fried my memory pack removing it while i wasn't supposed too.
the next time i played quest64 it meant i couldn't die or i would have to start over from scratch. i left my n64 on for a week straight while i grinded trying to max stats. by the time i got to the final boss i beat it effortlessly.

Song reminds me of Runescape.
Can you reccomend me more games with this nostalgic Midi soundscape?
quest 64 came out the same year as panzer dragoon saga and is proof that nintendo kids are the worst people in gamingnext to pc gamers

What the hell does your comment even mean?
It was a very big disappointment for people who'd played SNES RPGs and were hoping for the next evolution.

He thinks he's special for having played a $400 game

Quest 64 pwns though so I'm not sure what you mean

I had this back in the day and even then I found it boring and difficult enough to not enjoy the game. I tried playing it a year ago when I found a copy. Still terrible.
you gained speed / initiative in this game just from running
you could just leave the machine on with some weight running your avatar in circles and gain max speed in 8 hours or something
hitting things with your staff permanently increased your max hp
