My favorite game for nostalgia reasons. It's so heartwarming. I must've played it at least 10 times and I still discover things.

can't help but feel a lot was lost in translation for earthbound. Feels very disjointed, like there's a weak portrayal of a coherent theme. It's there, but it's not well done.

It was, on top of that you will also miss a lot if you didnt play and/or properly understand the first game.

Mother 3 is pretty different from EB, personally I love both for different reasons but I see where your coming from.

earthbound is a mediocre game with some good ideas (getting free exp from weak enemies, rolling odometer HP) and the first mother is just a generic NES rpg but it has a better story than earthbound

Mother 3 is definitely my favourite of the three

I actually only know of his for M3, I know he has had translation work in manga and anime but I'm not familar with that. May I ask for examples? Genuinely interested, he seems quite competent.

earthbound's translation was pretty well done, I agree. the one thing that always bothered me is that the starmen get robot sounds inserted into their speech. originally they spoke in katakana, which made them sound robotic while still being ambiguous as to whether they literally are robots. the english translation should've used all caps to get the same effect.
