Especially if you do NES homebrew or ROM hacking
Higan is as accurate of a SNES emulator as you are ever going to get.
ZSNES because it runs full speed on a Pentium 2 with 350 Mhz. That's a masterwork of optimization.
Meanwhile the alternatives like Higan get slowdowns even on a Pentium 4 with 3.5 GHz .

Snes9x because it works great, supports all operating systems including 64bit and supports controllers.
Fusion is cool. I only recently found out it plays sg1000 and Pico.

DOS version in native snes resolution with no filters runs at full speed in a Pentium MMX 166Mhz
We are talking about standards games, not weird stuff like Mario Kart or SuperFX games, for that you need a little bit more of power, though a Pentium II 233 is more than enough, maybe even a PMMX 233 or a fast K6

Higan is striving for extreme accuracy down to replicating the hardware in a virtual space.

Snes emulator speed really isn't an issue unless you bought your PC in the 90s. ZSnes doesn't have alternatives, it IS an alternative. Which isn't to say it's optimization isn't impressive, it just isn't the best option anymore.

As far as computer emulators go, UAE for Amiga and VICE for C64 are fantastic. Both emulate virtually any hardware expansion you could want.

And the fact it isn't an emulator, it's an interpreter
