I just got Dex because it reminded me of Flashback which is my second favourite video game ever. I god damned love me some good cyberpunk so what are some of your favourite retro examples?

Just don't be a bunch of nitpicky autists arguing over the finer details on whether something is cyberpunk or not, if it's noir in a science fiction setting then that's close enough.

forgot to include gameplay footage for those of you who don't already know about Flashback

Good game, but man is it hard as fuck

Anyways my suggestion is Syndicate, nice and oppressive cyber punk game

Also check out System Shock 1 & 2
>>
>>3633905
Great game.
Played through it as a street samurai back in the day.
I couple years back I did a playthrough as a gator shaman.
It was much more challenging and fun.

I still need ti di a playthrough as the decker.

I had 'Flashback', for the Genesis too. Played the shit out of it, until every move was second nature.

I recommend pic included. Harlan Ellison himself voices AM. It's pretty fucking awesome.

Slave Zero is the most cyberpunk-ish shooter I've played.

oh man, me too. I was able to pull off some crazy shit because I played it so much that I just knew things like exactly where to jump and catch a ledge several screens down where just landing on my feet would have killed me etc.

>>3634208
you have shit taste if you don't think original Flashback was great and your opinion should be discarded in all matters.
>>
>>3634228
I've completed it three times and have played multiple games of its genre.

It's a 6/10 which is "above average". Combat is easy, first and second levels have major pacing issues, but third onwards it picks up a bit. Once you get the forcefield combat just turns into "spam it and your gun" against enemies with far too much health. Also, the slimes are a fucking drag. The only enemy in the game that's well designed is the cyborgs, and they get replaced with the irritating jetpack cops.

Visually? Excellent. Atmosphere? Excellent. Controls? Good. Execution? Could've been a lot better. There's very little tension to the game and a real lack of difficulty.

If you think there is little tension then you must have played an inferior port. Your review is 2/10 - wouldn't take writer's opinion seriously in any matter.
>>
>>3634272
You mean the Mega Drive version, which it was developed for in the first place?
>>
>>3634275
It was originally developed for the Amiga but the Genesis version has great tension with its only using its nice low-fi synthy music as stings to heighten the tension outside of cutscenes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g_z6mCpYrU&index=14
I prefer that to say the Sega CD version where there's just redbook audio tracks running all the time.

I borrowed SNES Syndicate once. Didn't have a clue what I was meant to do.

Lawnmower Man for the Genesis/Mega-Drive and the SNES is a fairly interesting game with some run and gun elements

For years? huh, you must be in some out of the way place because it's usually pretty cheap & common at most retro shops I've been to.

>>3635567
No Ubisoft released a downloadable remake which wasn't great, it didn't get the tone right & the controls were sloppy.

I would perhaps recommend the Sega CD version of the GEN/SNES ports but I honestly have no idea what's going on in this uh.. game?

Then stay away from the CD version which replaces the clean 2D look of the cartridge version's cutscenes with grainy letterboxed FMVs of shitty early 90s CGI

ShadowRun, the schway one for SNES, not the boring version on Genesis.
>>
>>3636553
The SNES game isn't even Shadowrun.

The genny version is a straight adaptation of the PnP game.

Shadowrun on genesis is superior, chummer.

When people say that they're talking about game mechanics. Things like being able to get full cyberware with no detriment to your magic ability.
>>
>>3637240
Magic users loose their essence when they take cyberware

No essence?
No magic.

Every runner knows that, chummer.

In the SNES "Shadowrun" casters can take as much cyberware as they like with no penalty.

I don't know what that is, but it ain't Shadowrun.

But the snes fails in comparison to the genesis version in all of those things.

The genesis version being closer to the PnP version is just the cherry on top.

6 of the 8 disks have been translated for the MSX2/Turbo R version have been translated.
Unless you have an actual Turbo R, I'd recommend that you emulate it (it's slow as balls on a 2+).

It would be nice if it got finished, or if someone did the Sega CD version. The game is really good, at least if you like Phantasy Star/Megami Tensei style RPGs.

How many other RPGs are there where kids try to bum cigarettes from the PC and religious cultists try to get you high?
