Do you think Shenmue was a bad influence on current games?
Metal Gear Solid is more to blame for games becoming too cinematic, Shenmue was pretty niche.
no, because shenmue is GOAT. what influence did it have? QTEs? it didn't invent those... never played a more immersive game desu

There are no Shenmue clones, only GTA clones.

Yakuza is a kind of Shenmue clone.

No it isn't. Shenmue is at its core an adventure game, while Yakuza is a beat em up with a hub and a bunch of minigames.
Shenmue was all flashy graphics at the time and a somewhat decent soundtrack. But everything else about the game is just plain boring. Like even the story isn't interesting...and it's very unnatural. You'd think there'd at least be a coming of age aspect considering how young Ryo is, but no, it's just a cliche JRPG tier revenge journey that happens to be set in 80s Japan, then Hong Kong.

Shenmue was a mistake.
>A flop game on a dead on arrival console
>influence on current games

it's only boring because it's a life sim

>current games
>actual gameplay

No because Shenmue despite having a large plot for a video game focused even more on actual interactivity and openness. Video games would be fucking amazing now if they took influence from Shenmue.
