ITT Fighting games that had sequels but have since gone the way of the dinosaurs.

I suppose they aren't technically sequels though. There were 3 very different games by this same name that were all TMNT fighting games. My bad for being a bit unclear.

Had a good track record sales-wise when they were actually making new games. But then suddenly they decided to keep releasing the same games over and over and over again and got mad when people didn't buy them 5 times over.

man they've tried so hard to bring clayfighter back. How many times have they tried to revive it since the n64 game? I remember in 2005 the rumors about the wii game, then call of putty in 09, then 2012 with the 3ds game, then the most recent one.

I can only assume it was at least partially remastered considering pic related. It was a good 10 second clip of gameplay, then some other stuff, menu footage and a pre-intro stage pan.

fuck I miss clayfighter.

>way of the dinosaurs
>kek

Primal Rage was such a huge hit when it came out. It was released for EVERYTHING:
Snes, Genesis, 32X, Jaguar, PS1, 3d0, PC, AMIGA, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Sega Saturn.

Everyone I knew in 1995 had the game on at least one (or more) platform and I really enjoyed the SNES port.

Trying to play it now on any system or MAME, it doesn't hold up that well because of the really awkward special move system. You had to hold down buttons and then make different motions with the controller to execute even the most basic moves which, while unique, was the opposite of almost every fighting game ever made. Also, this should have been a 6 button fighting game because it had the "press two buttons for a fierce attack" thing that works in a game like Samurai Shodown, but not so well in Primal Rage.

Only having 7 characters (two being just Palette swaps) was kind of lame too as was the lack of a final boss character.

The game's sequel which was cancelled but finally unearthed in 2014ish looks decent, but it was supposed to be out in 1996/1997 and by this time would have been competing with the Capcom VS series, Tekken 3, VF2, and other fighting games that were far superior to Primal Rage 2. In the late 1990's there were so many fucking fighting games it was ridiculous and I guess that they didn't think PR2 could compete.

>so let's take a fighting game with dinosaurs instead of people, only do it with people instead of dinosaurs
there's a brilliant, can't-fail idea that really zeros in on what made the franchise popular

anyhoo, I'd guess off-hand there are fewer than ten fighting game franchises that have survived from the retro era, they were a huge fad and almost all of them are gone now

farewell doomsday warrior, you are gone but not quite 100% forgotten

Completely overshadowed by the likes of Tekken, but still a pretty good game in my opinion

Clayfighter games were total fucking ass who cares if its dead

>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

They were called "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" in Europe because the word "ninja" was considered way to hardcore and unsuitable for children.

Fixed

Fuck off Primal Rage is awesome.
>>
>>3622438
They were bad, but fun. I miss the c-grade games industry
>>
>>3623949
There are billions of c-grade games around now.
>>
>>3623961
I think mobile games are like R-grade games if that's what you're referring to. I guess I miss the interplays, THQs, and Jalecos a bit. Bargain bin games that aren't necessarily licensed garbage you know?
>>
>>3623949
>bad, but fun
or in other words "good"
>>
>>3623974
I mean I love ClayFighter, so yeah. I'm aware that it's loose, sloppy, and by most definitions, 'not a good game', but I love it despite those challenges.
>>
>>3623971
Many mobile games these days are better than Clayfighter and cost a lot less to play.
>>
>>3623984
I've yet to play a mobile game worth downloading for free, much less paying for.
>>
>>3623990
but you love clayfighter? lol okay. Nice nostalgia goggles.
>>
>>3623997
Do you realize where you are? And yeah I like clayfighter, and I hate playing shitty puzzle games on a touchscreen filled with ads, sue me.
>>
>>3624001
I know exactly where I am and Clayfighter is bargain bin trash that you like because of nostalgia.
>>
>>3624007
>I know exactly where I am
>Mobile games are god-tier

Are you really sure? You should probably check.

I liked Clayfighter when I was a kid, and still enjoy it from time to time. I'm not blinded by goggles, I know it's not good, but it is fun. I don't understand what your issue is. Why are you advertising phone games and shitting on retro game nostalgia on a retro game nostalgia board? I just can't comprehend your thought process.
>>
>>3624013
>Mobile games are god-tier
I didn't say that at all. Most are awful. Just that a lot are better than that POS.
>>
>>3624020
I would rather play a miserable game with a tactile controller than an excellent game via jab-n-smoosh controls
