I've been recently purchasing repros from Aliexpress and was aware that some snes/genesis don't include a battery to save the game. However, I was wondering if there is an easy way to solder a battery or equivalent onto the chip? Appreciate any help.
Also, repro thread if desired.
the chip looks like this. can take a better pic if needed

I also bought these from aliexpress, but thankfully they came with the battery so no issues with them. The quality is pretty damn good considering each game was $5.

A cartridge cannot overwrite the system it plays on.

Wow nice repros. They're fucking backwards idiot.

i used the cam to take the picture.

I hope you paid basically nothing for them. Paying for a repro in the first place sounds like a waste of money unless you have a serious fetish for seeing things running on original hardware and for some reason can't into flash carts.
But paying for repros that have less functionality than the original game? Holy fuck why would anyone do that? At least if you just set your money on fire you'd get a little warmth from it...

No, I doubt unless you're an electrical engineer with time on his hands.
You got to read reviews on ali and see if the game will save or not. I ordered a bunch of games from one seller who had games with 2 price tiers and I ordered Centy for a few bucks more. All the reviews made no mention of lack of saving so I'm hoping it saves. Should be getting it this week.

Genesis repo's are exactly $3. Most games don't have save functionality to begin with so not a loss except for rpg's.

Three dollars still sounds like three dollars too much for something like that to me even for one that doesn't have saving. For those that do I don't even have words. I mean it's your money, do what you want but wow.

What's that black thing? Looks like someone glued bubblegum on the chip

It's a glop top, basically a chip epoxied onto the pcb.

I think the point of repros is to have the convenience of playing the game on actual hardware for cheaper while also being able to switch cartridges and having a less condensed backlog, which to some people is a benefit.

Also if you already have a solid collection and dont really need a flashcart, it doesn't kill to drop 10 bucks on a handful of repros of JP games you can't otherwise play like Alien Soldier or Eliminate Down.

the point is to sell them on ebay and craigslist to suckers and make tons of money
Thanks for the input /vr/. I only ordered a couple of games that may need to save so thankfully I won't die by this outcome.

>Pokemon game with no save function
>perfect for the /vr/ collector who wants to show off his games without having to go through the bother of playing them
