I like Mario Kart a lot and agree that it is an awesome game, but Crash Team Racing is easily the best kart racing game of all time and superior to Mario Kart in every way.

mode 7 racing games (or whatever you want to call games like MKsnes) are one of the only retro "genre" of videogames that I find impossible to get back into.

I'm not even sure why, I always just find them extremely awkward.

Personally though, I find Double Dash to be the most fun racing game, though CTR is nuts at a high skill level.
Pretty much all kart racers are fun though.
