is GOG a /vr/-approved site?
>>
In as much as they cater to retro games, sure.

Do they make business decisions that drive me nuts? Yeah, but we're not exactly swimming in a lot of good options.
>>
The problem with GOG is a lot of the games still feel like they're asking for too high of a price.
>>
>>3599486

I've never paid full price for a game on GOG. They constantly have some kind of sale going, and if you wait long enough, everything goes 75% off eventually.

This may help you;
https://isthereanydeal.com/
>>
>>3599486
Seems like you're paying more for the convenience of having an older game setup to work on a modern system from the getgo rather than the game itself.
>>
>>3599481
No. Paying for digital games is a scam.
>>
Any recommendations during this sale?
>>
>>3599486
And that's why you wait for sales.
>>3599624
Depends entirely on what sort of games you like.
>>
Yeah. But its not great. Some games are not complete or dont work fully. Eg. Tomb raider 1 and rayman both are missing free dlc and music from orginal releases.

>We’ve discussed Mushihime Sama internally and because we’re so close to launch we’re not sure if we’ll be able to make it for launch, especially because this will be launching around the same time as our Fall promo. We’re also not totally convinced that the game can perform so well for as as it appears to be relatively unknown outside of Japan.

>The GOG Way, let me quote an internal expression that we're using at the office, we call it the boutique way. We want GOG to be boutique.
>>
I wish gog would offer downloads where available for both dosbox and the original windows versions of games. I get that they go with dosbox because it's much less hassle for compatibility but I can usually find some way of getting the windows version working and it's usually a lot better when it works.

>>
>>3600119
Read the TOS for Steam.

You don't buy a copy of the game, you buy a license to play it, and Steam can revoke that license at any time.
>>
>>3600241
>you buy a license

worse, you buy a subscription
>>
>>3600241
Has that actually ever happened except when it turned out they weren't authorized to sell it?
>>
>>3600256
No it hasn't. Even games that get delisted from the market don't get removed from your library. And all the people paranoid that Valve will one day pull the plug with no warning are also morons. You better believe that with 10+ million users, every games install directory will be backed up by someone and no-steam cracks will be made, assuming said game(s) don't already have one.
>>
>>3600241
And? I'm not selling the games or reverse engineering them or distributing them online or anything. My account is in no danger of being terminated. I look forward to renting Half-Life 2 for another 11 years.

>being this retarded

You pay for an installer for a game that works anywhere, anytime for as long as you want whenever you want that can never be taken away from you.

I'm not sure what your problem with it is. You should keep your man child bitching contained to Steam where it actually makes some sense.

Yeah but it's a DOS executable. For games like Dungeon Keeper and Simcity 2000 I want the actual Windows version. Simcity 2000 has some compatibility issues but when you get it to work it runs much smoother than DOS and at any resolution you want. But they don't offer the Windows version as a download. It's understandable that they offer the DOS version because getting DOSBox to run causes far fewer headaches, I just wish they'd give you the choice.

>not a slow, unstable, bloated piece of shit with ridiculous ToS
There was a time when Steam was decent; almost 10 years ago when it was ONLY games and messaging friends. Nobody uses anywhere near a quarter of the features they keep shoveling into it.

GOG at least just gives you an exe with the game and optional extras as separate downloads, all without having to touch their bloated client.
>>
>>3600241
this level of paranoia is hilarious, and only extremely poor people that often don't buy games but rather pirate them, hold this sort of opinion to justify their actions.

besides you spend much less money on steam if you just buy during sales than you would buying physical, and the only downside by your logic is you don't get to have the game sitting on your shelf collecting dust and taking up space, a convenience worth the asking price in my mind.

but if you want to hoard be my guest.

By the way steam has never revoked shit from someone unless their account got terminated or they were buying codes from shady sites, which is on the person themselves.

Convenience mostly, comes with all the software I want out of the box, automatically updates and manages it for me, is extremely stable and is completely customizable to my tastes.

Main issue is it has a high learning curve and is heavily fragmented, it takes a while to learn with software you like and what tweaks you need to do to get everything the way you want it.

As a programmer it also can pull down all the software I need automatically and sets up a workable environment without having to configure everything, its only weakness is a lack of graphical debugging tools.

Gearbox pretty much became a huge shit and stole the license from 3D realms, meaning DN3D is no longer on GOG. The only way you can get it digitally (In legal form) now is through world tour, and that's a bloated shit that's missing the expansion packs
>>
>>3601789
>>3602290

So you want the Freespaces and MDKs and don't know what else to buy? If your tastes are anything like mine, I already own;

Die by the Sword
Earthworm Jim
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Jagged Alliance
Kingpin
Redneck Rampage
Shattered Steel
Sacrifice
Stonekeep
all the Star Trek games

So I recommend those.

It doesn't have to be Steam retard. Take GTA San Andreas for instance. Their licenses on some music ran out and they forcibly patched it out from all Steam games.

They took it from everyone just because they could and you're not even considering what happens if Steam dies.
>>
>>3600447

Install and launch the game from a completely internet disconnected PC with the full installer. If it doesn't require any sort of connection to do so, nor any sort of code or pirate wheel puzzle or mandatory client or anything of the like, it is DRM free. A game that connects to the internet is not the same as a game that requires the internet to function.

I meant that more as a half-assed joke, but they somewhat get a pass for those in that the installer includes the material meaning you don't have to download or look around for it yourself. It's still old school copy protection, but all the materials needed to bypass it are included at the least and you still don't need to activate the game online or some other BS.
