Beneath Apple Manor is the first roguelike
First commercial maybe.
Every RPG back then was a roguelike.

Should we call them Beneathapplemanorlikes then?
>>3590621
No, that would be Rogue.
I'm afraid this thread isn't bait... Please tell me it is.
I like the name"BAMlike" personally, but roguelike is too codified now to change it.

Rogue only came out in 1980.

Looks fun.
I have been getting into RPGs recently other than the big names I played as a teen.
Are there any good Apple II-C RPGs? I still have a working one with color monitor and joystick which I use play old text based adventure games and games I played early in my childhood.

Truth. The creators of Rogue even mentioned this as an influence.

Orthanc had random dungeons, turn based combat, and permadeath back in 1975.

It depends how you define the term "roguelike". If it means a game that has similar gameplay elements to Rogue, then BAM is definitely a rougelike. If it means a game that's a derivative of Rouge, then it's definitely not.
Also if we take the creator's at their word neither game inspired the other, they both arrived at similar solutions to a computer version of D&D.

This is false.
>>3590621
Orthanc is the first roguelike
>>3593040
You stole that from upthread.

>>3596698
