I always interpreted Draygon as a tyrant, small ones show up at first, harmless to Samus, and then Draygon himself shows up and chases them all away while attacking Samus. Draygon dies and is pushed down into the mud by his kin in the sort of way an opportunistic feeder in the deeps would.

Sure, of course, but I guess Metroid feels worse because it ended up being a very somber and atmospheric franchise.

Super Metroid feels internally consistent to me in a way that other Metroid games, even good ones, don't. I really can't help but feel Japan doesn't get what makes the fluff compelling.
