I just bought this today. I don't know much about it except that it's very rare and is supposed to have the best audio for Sega Genesis games.
I'm also thinking about burning some Sega CD games but I heard they might damage the system. What are your thoughts about this?

I don't play Genesis games on anything else anymore although I do find the audio on the original "High Definition Graphics" model 1 to be a little punchier.
>>
Damage the system? BULLSHIT. Burn away.
>>
how would a contact-less, passive media format damage the system? it's not like burned disks generate their own lasers
>>
>>3586860
How much did you pay?
>>

Well according to what i read. A cheaper disc maybe harder to read. The lasers have use more power to get the right reflection needed. It may also have to pass over multiple times to read a copy. This would also cause fatigue on the motors that move the laser.

250$
>>
>>3586905
This also happens with original discs anyway.

Yes, of course. Just answering the question. Any bad disc, even a legit copy would have the same issue. Just wondering if this is real risk if I burn some games.

Im sure an engineer will chime in on this.

From what I know about this stuff, the laser will only get marginally more powerful, but almost to the point where it won't affect the laser. It will do this on a repeat pass.

If a segment can't be read enough times properly then it just gives up. Again not really enough to hurt the system much, unless it ALWAYS re-reads a segment on a certain game.

Burnt media won't be any worse than commercial discs, as long as the media is not shit. (some media can have defects in the plastic, which would cause either a failed burn or constant failed reading)

get quality CDs if you're worried

something made last month will probably read better than something that has been laying god knows where for a couple decades
>>

This is the equivalent of saying "Don't downshift in your car, it hurts the gears." Technically, it's right, but in practice, it's silly and makes no real difference except maybe like 3 or 4% reliability hit long term.

If that matters to you, don't play it anyway.

Otherwise, yes the JVC is awesome. Use it. Burn some terrible FMV games and have at it.
