What are some musicians that used video game music in their works? Either sampling, playing covers, whatever.
Mr- Bungle was pretty based

Love the SMB2/Doki Doki part
That was pretty garbage. I remember they incorporated a bit of smb into one of their songs in their s/t. Also Frank ocean's has a bit of Street fighter playing before the start of one of his albums. Also Drake a sampled a song in Dkc 2.

Yeah they use the underwater music and the flag pole fanfare on the s/t

Del the Funky Homosapien used a sample from Darkstalkers in one of his songs.
That guy's a mega-nerd though, it's kinda funny.

Let me tell you about da protoculture.

if ya don't know da culture here da whole structure
if you like abstract rap, Clouddead is bretty gud. Here's a track that has some game samples, one of them being Goonies 2 on the NES.

A former member of Dimmu Borgir stole a theme of an Amiga game and put it into a track.
When they remade their album years later they had to change this song.

I don't remember any SMB, but I know for a fact they had the final fantasy victory theme at the end of one of the tracks on that album.
And yes, their albums are way better than that clip.

Not very cool in person though. Murs was the coolest rapper I've met. He complimented me on my Clerks shirt and wrote 'making fuck' when he signed my ticket stub. I'd chill with Murs.

Machinae Supremacy use a lot of SID chip stuff (commodore 64) he even makes tracks called Sidology which are huge medleys of commodore and amiga tracks. It's pretty fantastic.

in 2001 they covered the Great Giana Sisters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKkmyMKbPKE
I fucking love what he does, half his shit sounds like those rad demoscene tracks half metal.
Oh and later on they did the soundtrack to a game called Jets N Guns, not retro (2004) but it's pretty awesome they went from covers to making game music.

Holy shit that Sidology 2

Zombie Nation did!

I remember some French black metal band copied the cathedral theme from Chrono Trigger for the beginning of one of their songs. It's pretty awesome when you replace the synths with tremolo picking and double kick pedals.

They put on a great live show. Haven't heard anything new from them in a while though.

You can clearly see the drummer doesn't care. It was just a boring, badly played interlude. I will admit the 2nd part of the underground song for smb2 when it got heavier was sick.

That's the closest we'll ever get to hearing a Zappa vidya medley :-(. Fucking tight is what I mean.
>>3585938
Anyone recognize the song they play after the SMB underwater music at the end around 3:10?
HORSE the band. I cant confirm if they ever actually ripped a song off of vidya but they used 8-bit sound to make their music. Pretty niche and I guess kind of relates.

SMB is in the middle of Slowly Growing Deaf. I don't remember Final Fantasy anywhere in there.

So they all dressed like 90's Dream Theater?
