The thing that bugs me about AVGN is that he is not old enough to have relevant opinions on the early NES games. He was barely 5 years old when the system came out in north America.

He claimed to have used Mario paint in his early gamer films from the late 80s, but Mario paint wasn't even released until 1992. He clearly revisited the NES later in life.

He was 9 years old when the 16-bit era began in north America, so he probably has more relevant memories of the SNES/Genesis, and yet iGeneration kids today look up to him as the definitive NES guru.

To me he has always lacked authenticity for this reason. He was just a young film maker who cashed in on retro gaming at the right time.

This. I've never found AVGN funny. Poop jokes and swearing is funny when you're 10 but I was already a university student by the time he hit the scene. And AVGN isn't informative.
