I wonder if Barney DOOM is still kicking around somewhere. That genuinely freaked me out when I played it.

I used to play Thievery for Unreal Tournament. Great times, and it was the best kind of community; everyone seemed to know each other. I'd be surprised if anyone was still playing it. I don't think I would call it super popular though.

The Specialists was one, had a great community, tons of custom skins for chars and guns too and most important of all, the maps were excellent across the board, they all nailed the action-movie feel. the peak for me was 2005-2006 playing 2.1.

The Chrono Trigger scene is all but dead at this point except for perhaps Flames of Eternity or the flames of your hate for Flames of Eternity. You can thank Square.

What came out of it was usually pretty good though.

They changed it to be less influenced by The Matrix/Reloaded. Which is one of the things I disliked about the change from 1.5 to 2.0

Quake 2 Superheroes was pretty rad.

Unfortunately I think the final version removed a lot of abilities because the whole mod was being rewritten/overhauled, and the far superior version is lost forever.
