Shit thread but I'll say my "best think" anyway.

SM64 is great for the first half of it or so. Which is pretty short for a game which could be beaten in just a few hours. After that it just starts having much less ideas, poorer implemented, less inspired cluttered level designs and so on.

I guess the devs simply shoved the worst/unfinished levels they had to the last portion of the game. It feels like it needed a bit of work IMO. Like turtle shells which are a fucking bitch to control but last for mere seconds.

It's ridiculously overrated, but it doesn't mean it's a bad game. It's too short though. More like a demo.

Even if you prove it, then what? I bought the game, I've played it. It was fun while it lasted. But I'd never go to playing it again, it's a demo more than a full game.

SM64 is practically untouchable media, no matter what complaint you could possibly have about the game, the Nintendo defense force will beat you into submission like its their job.

It's a well built game and inarguably influential in good ways but there are reasons to dislike elements of the game or the game itself.

I dunno man, I feel like NSMB Wii was legit good.

NSMB was nice because it was the first new 2D Mario after a long post SMW drought, and NSMBW just naturally built on it.

The series didn't feel stale and boring until the 3rd and 4th games, which to be fair, really didn't feel like they built on the last two games in any way.

the absolute god tier feel of the controls. You can do so much with mario throughout any level in the game and he doesnt feel to heavy or too floaty, it feels just right.

Being able to surf on the shell in lethal lava land

Finding the hidden city in wet dry world

the atmosphere in some of the levels were absolutely top notch, and sometimes you'd just want to stand there and let it all sink in

Many of the game's aspects are perfect. That does not, however, make it a perfect game.

The camera is horrendous (which is sort of understandable given the time it was released), and the boss battles are incredibly goddamn repetitive.

It's still a solid 8/10 though.

Team Fortress had it before Goldeneye was released. Also had headshots before Goldeneye.

Quake Team Fortress didn't have proper reloading (clips) at the time though they had """reloading""" where the shotguns had a longer shooting delay than regular Quake which isn't quite the same thing.

They added proper clips to the Soldier's rocket launcher later on for balance reasons.

Also headshots in Quake Team Fortress only worked with the sniper rifle - and only on the head. I remember the developers made an experimental branch of TF with proper full-body sniper rifle hit detection but it never worked very well (Quake wasn't designed for it in mind) so it was never rolled into the actual game.

It's a bit desperate of mustards to compare an actual commercial game like Goldeneye which required proper development and testing to a Quake mod which let a bunch of dudes upload their experimental scripts anytime to the internet.

It was more than just rocket launcher, you could reload manually, and it was added before Goldeneye was released.
