This is something I was going to say is pushing the lack of current industry jabs, there's simply no point when everybody is on every platform anyway.

Though I do remember the Witcher made a jab at asscreed, with a dead guy in the asscreed outfit laying in a wagon. Nothing comparable to the rippage seen in older games (seems the 90s in particular did it a lot).

Probably it was due to some sort of rivalry between Rare and Virgin.
Other Nintendo games (as in, actual Nintendo games developed in Japan) never had this kind of stuff, I don't think.
Taking shots seems to be more of a western thing.

Rare was all about this shit, it's a British thing. "Banter" might be simplifying it a bit, but they never took the industry seriously the way most developers did. I don't even think I can narrow down one particular jab in Conker's Bad Fur Day as the entire game is them taking the piss out of the industry as it was in 2001, including their part in it.
