I recall years ago when some games worked better on 1.6 than 1.7 and viceversa, now we have version 2.3,this version is truly the best or im better installing older versions?
PD: sorry for my english.
Depends on the game, I think 1964 is better than PJ64 nowadays though.
use the latest one. i think audio is worse in current versions because the devs dont care about it much and dont test it but the rest is improved. alternatively mupen is on the same level of quality so try that too.

I have been playing Super Mario 64 and TLoZ: Ocarina of time on the 2.3 version with a program called 3D Analyzer and works perfectly.
Use Mupen64.
Newest one.
I will tell you something I noticed. version 1.6 is the last version to support the Goldeneye "visit the dam island" glitch.
I'm still pissed that 1.7 wasn't free.
I started using the project 64 2.3 version and it comes with a widescreen hack for Ocarina of Time. Which is pretty good, since i want to finish this for the first time (when i was 15, i didnt find the song of storm and quitted).
is there any cycle accurate emulator yet

Closest there is is the virtual console.
what is the state of n64 emulation? do i even bother?

Mupen64Plus is currently the best you'll find, but you're really just best off buying a flash cart instead of causing yourself a headache.

It's good for the popular games.
The critique of it here is heavy handed. People here care more about having the superior setup than playing video games.

There's one in development called cen64.
I always thought 2.2 was the best, because it was the last version before they started messing around with all the features. It's too bad the installers are filled with adware now.
Project 64 2.3 run Banjo Tooie well?
