This "adjusted for inflation" autism completely misses the point.

I don't know if it misses a point, I don't know what kind of a point it was trying to make.

Who are these anons that always support the WonderSwan and 3DO? Is there any good reason to like either?
>>
My favorite console was the Wii, but only because it was backwards compatible with the the gamecube, and gave us the virtual console. Also ease of soft modding helps.

Stripping those things away, it's still probably the gamecube.

In order of preference/time played;
NES
PS1
Genesis + SNES (equal)
Neo-Geo AES
Saturn
Dreamcast
Xbox
N64
Wii (for emulation purposes, not a fan of the library)
>>
>>3542116
15/24 consoles in the image are retro, I think this would have a bit more leniency to it if you ask this Anon.
>>
>>3542172
CDs were a mistake. We should never have adopted that format over carts.
>>
snes followed by nes. grew up with the nes and then when i finally got the snes it felt like a nes on steroids. did not get that feeling from the n64, feel like the ps did the better part
>>
Just home consoles? Okay. Here's my top 5.
5. Playstation X
4. Mega Drive
3. Dreamcast
2. Saturn
1. Master System

Hi, James.
>>
Top 5:

PS3
Genesis
Wii U
SNES
Dreamcast

Honorary mentions:

Wii
SMS
NES
N64
Saturn
2600
CDi

The rest I either haven't had a chance to play or just have basically nothing I care about in the library (for instance, everything I care about in the entire xbox lineup is either better on PC or available on another console with a better controller).
>>
>>3542186
Agreed 100%. The N64 has always seemed weird to me. PS1 seems like a true SNES successor (minus the Nintendo IP), a lot of similar games, similar form factor, similar controller.

N64 is kind of it's own thing, the complete shift of old Nintendo to new Nintendo. The birth of modern gaming.

Hard to believe both the 2600 and Intellivision were so comparatively expensive when they were released.

I was born in 1980 and am just barely old enough to have gotten to play them prior to the NES coming out.

I can still just barely remember the after effects the game market crash. By that point everything was getting clearanced out and heavily reduced in price while stores were almost giving the stuff away.

>>
>>3540925
Because it only adjusts the price based on the current value of money. It doesn't take into consideration things like cost of living increases, average wages, or poor economic environments. It's a superficial comparison. $300 in 1995 felt less expensive than $300 in 2012 because of those factors.

yeah continuing to use cartridges would mean we have to stick with early 1990s technology in every other aspect as well while with optical media we can use all the current technologies. Makes total sense.

>>
>>3540916
Well, looks like SNES and GBC are the winners.
I still prefer the NES, though, personally.
>>

I'm surprised the Neo Geo Pocket Color is as well liked as it is. I've never even seen one. What games does it have?
>>
>>3557271
Game Boy Color is the most universally popular device on here? Damn.
>>
>>3542184
It had already been an international standard, and would become the main method of consumer data transfer for ten years — and not because of game consoles that had incompatible formats for their CDs.

The main problem with first CD consoles was that they were misbalanced for that amount of data, didn't have a performance to process it, and were partially oriented at old types of games (for example, expecting "3D stuff" to be models near the center of the screen or inside a small window so that polygons don't suffer much from lack of perspective correction, while people became possesed by the promise of full 3D worlds). You have 2 MBs of memory to fit game code and level (or level segment) data, what's next? Making 300 levels to fill a CD? Or, being a smart guy who knows about compression, making 3000 levels for your game? No wonder people burned all that space on WHOPPING HOUR OF FULL MOTION VIDEO SEGMENTS and full screen graphics with some kind of arkanoid intermissions between them (sometimes quite literally). Moreover, more comprehensive content (say, uniformly styled portraits, eyecatches, animations and bumpers for the whole progression of the game) means more work and bigger team (and modern game development projects couldn't really be imagined), while getting C-grade Hollywood studio with a green screen to make some was definitely faster, cheaper, and more manageable (if we don't mention Wing Commander... which we shouldn't mention).

What we should mention is Killing Time (3DO version) that incorporated streaming media into game world quite nicely. I wonder why it hasn't been done more often (at least before Half-Life made everyone crazy about scripted interactions of 3D models and killed animated sprites for good).
>>
>>3542963
You really don't know what you're talking about. Especially when you talk about how things were in 1995, before you were even born.

You're talking fucking nonsense you retard. I remember when SMB3 was £60 long after the SNES came out and there were barely any NES games sold anymore and that was much more than £60 now because people got paid much less, it's literally the equivalent of a years old game costing more than £100 new.
