ITT TRIGGER WARNINGS
>>
>>3518410
Upon replaying Silver, I realized this fight can actually be very easy. You can sweep Whitney no problem if you get a Drowsee and trade it for the Machop in the mall. Rollout is ineffective against Machop and Karate Chop burns through both of her Pokemon. My Machop was untrained at Level 14 and did fine. Still an issue in Nuzlockes but otherwise the game gives you an easy way to win.
>>
>>3518410
Just get dig my man.
>>
>>3518472
Rock Paper Scissors is an easy game when you know the future.
>>
>>3518410

To be fair, most gyms, at least in Gen 1, could be plowed through with little consideration.

This is why you add superfluous rules to enhance the difficulty. Rock paper scissors sure is hard when you can only choose rock, even if under certain conditions rock can beat paper. On the topic of rock>>3518410
Just get a Geodudebro, you have like two chances to pick one up before this fight.
>>
>>3518523
>Brock's Pokemon have a garbage Special stat so even with a type resistance, Charmander's Ember still does respectable damage to them.
>They don't know any Rock/Ground moves that could fuck Charmander up.
>For years people treat Brock as the hardest thing ever if you choose Charmander.

I don't understand.

I don't know what gets me, the fact that Miltank used Rollout or the fact that the player is using Teddiursa.

I never played Gold so I don't know if it's possible to get a Teddiursa by the time you fight Whitney.

The whole series is just a test of your patience. Castlemania is so much better that it's not even funny.
>>
>>3518915

It's not in Gold, but apparently it can be encountered in Crystal.
>>
>>3518930

In Dark Cave in Crystal*
>>
>>3518472
>>3518551

You don't need either, because Falkner gives you the move to beat Miltank. Rollout can't build up power if it keeps missing, and Stomp can't flinch you.
>>
>>3518410

how did you get a teddiursa that early?
>>
>>3518523
There is literally a guy who tells you what a gym uses as soon as you enter it in every gym.
>>
ITT people pretend they didn't get their shit pushed in by Whitney when they were kids.

Looking back NOW you can see how to beat her easy but as a kid you really did think about all these other options.
>>
>>3519091
yeah, she was devastating if your only strategy was to only train your starter and you started with cyndaquil, and that was about 50% of the kids I met

A problem I'm surprised it even happened was people without decent moves that weren't normal stuck at the ghost gym
>>
>>3518565
Charmander fags are the worst
>>
Yeah, Whitney was tough. You know what else gave me a hell of a time when I was a kid? Erika's Vileplume back in R/B. At the same time I remember its attacks syncing up with the music though, which was really cool.
>>
>>3518989

In Crystal he's a 5% encounter in the dark cave before Violet city during daytime.
>>
>>3518503
oh yeah expecially since pokemon has no other factors

Yup, triggered all right.
Best thing to do is just catch a Geodude, Rollout is not very effective and neither is Stomp. Then just spam magnitude
>>
>>3521229
yeah why would you not play the best version of Johto

>>3522136
You're a chump if you walk into a gym, check the type, and leave to go get and train the advantageous type.
>>
My most recent play of crystal I had a Haunter with me, and I just cursed the Miltank, so I just stalled while it died in a couple turns thanks to it eating a quarter of it's HP each turn, on top of what I was hitting it for.
>>
>>3521229
You know her Miltank knows Attract in GSC as well, right?
>>
>>3521565
well strictly speaking, the pokemon and moves available in the remake might not strictly match the ones available in the original.

I've never understood this and I didn't even know people had a hard time with Whitney until like, 2009 maybe? I started with Totodile in Crystal but I know a lot of kids always picked fire starters, so was that it? The only thing I can remember giving me a hard time was a puzzle or two, but even then it probably just felt like forever because I was younger. I've never even been particularly good at video games, especially when I was younger so I don't get it. I'm pretty sure all I used to beat her was my starter and Furret.

It's meant for 6 year olds to beat. It's not hard.
>>
>>3522235
what the fuck are you talking about retard, Miltank's moves are the same in the original and the remakes
>>
>>3522927
That's why NES games could be beaten on the first try by toddlers, right? You also forget that GS came out three years after RB

>those people who don't know the true horror of fighting Brock with Pikachu starter
>>
>>3522379
I think it was a damage sponge + a devastating combo attack.

Everything up until then was simple, but if you didn't grind, have a fighting move, or a powerful stab move then it's going to be tough.
>>
>>3523856
and how exactly does this relate to >>3521197
nothing mentioned suggests it being related to HGSS mechanics-wise

>>
>>3518410
Never understood why people had so much trouble with her? I remember playing through my first time having no issues whatsoever. Then again unlike most people I simply train my pokemon usually roughly 5-10 levels higher than the gym number. Examples At least 15 first the 1st gym then maybe 20-25 for the 2nd 30 for the 3rd and so on. It's not that hard to play these fucking games people. Come on.
>>
>>3523895
You're a scrub at the DKC games then if that place gave you double the trouble.

>>
>>3522379
I played with Totodile and I got fucked in the ass. Maybe you got lucky? If you hit with your strongest attack and Miltank misses you can get through with no problem
>>
>>3523895
When I was a child I played video games.

Worst than this was 'poisonous pipeline' and the one stage where lightning strikes.

It killed me over and over and over again.

Good times tho. Today I am a real man because of the difficults challenges Faced with honor.

sorry, I am not used to smole
>>
>>3518472
It's not that simple though, there's a lot of luck involved. If you get a female Machop it's attack stat will be shit the whole game, if you get a male, Miltank will use Attract and detroy you. I tried this a number of times and Miltank was just too fast and too powerful and if Machop fails, Rollout will wipe out your whole team.

I tried to make a low(ish) level strategy guide for GSC a few years ago and got bored around badge 7 but I remember just about every gym battle being a surprise nightmare. There are a number of strategies I was able to find but they all require at least two Pokemon and have an element of risk. Flaffy(Thunder Wave)+Gastly+Machop+Onix should do it but even then the RNG gods might hate you (Flaffy gets Stomped, Gastly gets Attracted, Rollout kills everything).

>>3519248
I don't remember that gym being hard as a kid either but it can actually be very tricky. His Pokemon are very fast and have a nasty combination of moves (mean look, curse, hypnosis, dream eater, shadow ball) not to mention a lot of Pokemon you may have may be nearly useless (Bayleef for example). You notice a lot of interesting things about this game when you go out of your way to avoid over-leveling.
