Firstly just to be pedantic GBA is not retro. Secondly the GBA sound patch introduces static that is in my opinion very noticeable. Just play the SNES version with the English patch unless the fact they named him Butz in the fan translation is just to much for you.

GBA version is the best of the GBA FF ports and more than playable. The sound and graphics aren't even bad, unlike VI.

The newer versions have bonus content which isn't terribly interesting. And the translations range from awful to pun filled and annoying.

The original has the best sound and visuals.

I actually like way the soundtrack sounds with some of the new soundfonts. Especially the overworld theme.
