I'm about to start a Final Fantasy playthrough on the NES that I actually intend on finishing. Usually I do Fighter-Fighter-RedMage-Redmage but I want to actually finish this one (usually give up at the ice cave) and have a good experience.

What would you recommend for party comps? I'm thinking Fighter, Thief/Blackbelt, WhiteMage Blackmage might be more enjoyable.

This can be a general thread for getting the most out of your first playthrough, or challenge runs or whatever.

My go-tos are Fighter, Black Belt, Black Mage, White Mage and Black Belt, Black Belt, Black Belt, Black Belt. Four BB's is fun; a little extra grinding for exp, but never worry about GP and can one-round anything.

I ended up choosing Fighter, Black Belt, Redmage, Blackmage.

I was just grinding quite a bit while watching a movie, level 5 and I just got the ship.

Black Belt is the fucking shit, man. I can't imagine a playthrough without one. He makes the battle with Chaos a walk in the park.
