Rate my childhood. Swap Tetris with Turtles 2 if you want to keep with what I had/love, I just feel Tetris is too important such that it should be on the list.

Those were what I had back then, borrowed some like the original Megaman (which convinced me to get 2), or rented some like Megaman 3 (Double Dragon 2, Marble Madness). Since then I have tried and loved through emulation Recca, Crisis Force, Metal Storm, Kirby, Tiny Toons, and the rest of the Megaman games. Never liked Metriod which I borrowed back then, but love the GBA remake (even loved 2 on GB). A notable omission is the original Final Fantasy which was always #2 after SMB3 in Nintendo Power polls, but I started on that series on SNES with 2 (4 easy type). As a kid I mostly stuck with brand recognition with Capcom, Konami (Ultra), Tecmo, and Nintendo, which sadly limited me from Vic Tokai and Taxan greatness.

Still have a lot to try like Shatterhand, Mighty Final Fight, Street Fighter 2010, Faxanadu, and Star Tropics ...

really, games like ninja gaiden, contra, batman, while good, are linear. there's only one way to play them; no choice. so, they don't stand the test of time. and i don't like to say something is my favorite unless it stands the test of time.

i need to go back through the nes discog and find more games that i like.

if you don't care about design, that's your prerogative, but i love games with smart design, or accidentally good design.

what i mean by good is something that encourages you think think creatively, or at least gives you options to approach something in multiple (ideally, infinite) ways. example: you can choose from an array of powerups before entering a troublesome level in smb3. in smb2 you can pick from any of 4 characters who all have different properties. if you ask me, nintendo should've kept this as a mainstay of mario games. the only thing i can think of that would've made smb3 better is being able to use multiple characters. i really don't think that would hurt the game whatsoever.

anyway, some folks don't give a shit about design, preferring to enjoy games as a nostalgic or aesthetic experience, and that's fine, but it's not my style. if i like a song from a game i'll just rip it off youtube, and skip playing a game i don't like.
