Was it perfect?
>>
perfect is a big word, but it's pretty much on the top list
>>
>>3469094
I'd say "at the top of the list" but that's probably what you meant. Otherwise yeah I came in to say basically this. Hugely flawed in obvious ways through hindsight but never the less the ultimate example of this special niche genre.
>>
>>3467851
everything the first game did right was done better the second game. it's one of the best games of all time.
>>
I wish true vehicular combat would make a comeback somehow, in TM or otherwise

I remember I always wanted to do the battle mode in CTR rather than race, it's just fun to drive around and kill people
>>
>>3469097
Twisted Metal Black Online was the pinnacle of the series.
>>
>>3469145
It was better in every way but it was far too late to be considered the real pinnacle.
>>
>>3467851

yes
>>
>>3467851
To me it suffers early 3D game syndrome, looks ugly and controls are not tuned. However since it's the first sequel, it means improvements were made, and the SingleTrac art style was full of heart. I love the roster. Before anyone goes ape shit when I say early 3D handles like ass, I need Head-On style controls and gameplay tuning. Black's refinment on PS2 is good on paper, but the controls are still too difficult and flimsy for me.
>>
>>3467851
I love it. Last summer I finally beat it with every player. I got close as a child, but there were a few, notably sweet tooth, that always gave me hell. Entirely because there are no passwords for his career
>>
Why is Axel always the first one to die?
>>
>>3467851
I absolutely love this game and used to be so good at it. Pulling off acrobatics and combos with the dpad can be a zen experience. I usually played as outlaw. I suck now
>>
>>3469283
I had a hard time adjusting to blacks controls. Sort of gave up on it without giving it a chance
>>
>>3467851
I had the first 3 as a kid, and always thought 3 was better, even if it was more polished. Care to explain how I'm wrong, /vr/?
>>
>>3469379
3 is a lot of fun too, but it didn't really do anything better than what 2 had already accomplished.
>>
Requiring combos to be entered for shield, mines, etc. was a pain.
It's a shame it took until the PS3 game to bind those to d-pad buttons. Black really should have sorted it.
>>
>>3469379
No Thumper.
>>
>>3469379
The story in 3 was pretty bad. The worst in the series is TM4 though
>>
>>3469283
I can tell your approximate age. It's cool that you can appreciate the heart of 1-2-CD-RT and how fucked it is that Sony took their license. You really need to git gud though

>>3469319
He has the weakest armor and he very strong special makes him a target. You don't want him blindsiding you.

>>3469379
If you'd have had 4 it would have really highlighted what was wrong with 3.

>>
>>3467851
>incredibly flawed clusterfuck of a game
>perfect
Not even close
>>
Absolutely. An HD remaster with multiplayer would sell big time.
>>
>>3467851
TM2 was awesome when it first came out but once Rogue Trip was released there was nothing better until Black. Head-On was balanced for quick bite sized matches to suit the PSP so the game felt too easy and was too casual for PS2 but the mechanics were still better than TM2's old and stale mechanics. Twisted Metal for PS3 was as easy as Head-On but with lowered health versus Black's in multiplayer made it hard as fuck.
>>
>>3470780
>Rogue Trip
I wasn't a huge fan of the tourist/photo op mechanic, but man, there was so much cool shit packed into that game, and TONS of great destruction in the levels. I love how creative and lively that entire game is. Everything about it feels like they had fun making it.
>>
>>3471264
The tourist mechanic was pretty interesting in my book. You needed to make money to be able to pay for a few things during the matches like health and what not. Instead of straight up ripping everyone else apart, this mechanic also encouraged you to explore the map.
>>
>>3469379

The arenas in 3 are a lot smaller than 2. One could argue that it made the combat more intense that way, but with the bigger arenas of part 2, you could use strategies instead of just endlessly plugging away at enemies and hoping for the best.
>>
>>3469379
3?! Who likes 3? Actually, I can see someone preferring 3's physics--the cars are a lot zippier, and in TM2 you float a lot off of jumps and get generally bounced all over the place. 3 is certainly tighter in that regard, but I like 2's bouncy feel.

I guess 3 also generally has smoother graphics and framerate, but everything else about it kind of sucks. Boring levels, less destruction, wimpier weapons, uninteresting vehicles and characters... it's just a flatter, duller game. TM2 feels crazy and exciting, TM3 feels by-the-numbers.

And the style is so, SO much worse than TM2's.
>>
Who did you guys main?

TM2: Thumper and Mr. Grimm
TM3: Firestarter, Mr. Grimm
TMB: Brimstone, Mr. Grimm [\spoiler]
Never really played the others.
>>
>>3473176
TM2: Shadow and Mr. Slam. Shadow's remote-explosion special was 2cool, and Mr. Slam's was simply devastating. I don't usually like bigger, heavier cars in these games but in TM2 I did.

Thumper was also good because of that insane fire damage and he's more fun to drive.
>>
>>3469762
and TM 1
>>
>>3469145
Shit.

You just made me realize that we REALLY need a game like twisted metal on PC with online play. I think it could have real esport potential.

The feeling of finally beating the game on a sunday afternoon with my best freind after 2 nights of absolute minimal sleep, is something I will never forget.

I remember being totally exhausted and falling asleep for 12 hours.

Damn I miss those days.

I main Axel and Sweet Tooth. In the PS3 version I mained Meat Wagon.

Spectre for me.

Loved the Cryptkeeper style endings.
>>
>>3467851
Kinda surprised it got a T rating considering how dark some of the endings were.

AND I THANK YOU FOR PLAYING TWISTED METAL

Twisted Metal was always too edgy for me.

Oh wow man you're so cool only watching shit like Barnie the Dinosaur cause anything else would be waaaay too edgy for you.

Fuck off kid.

Even though I'm a bit of sim-racing whore outside of TM, I like the ability to turn in place that TM2 provides. TM2 just seems better for some unexplainable reason.
>>
>>3475736

The FMVs were B-movie-quality at best. Calypso's face looked like a pizza.
>>3473176
Axel for 1, Twister in all her games, Club Kid for 3.
>>3472431
To be fair, 3 was my first, so I was a bit turned off by the graphics and rosters (at first) of the first 2. But they qere fun nonetheless

You're thinking of the first one. 2 was all hand drawn and what looked like someone else's skin over his burnt burnt face.
>>
>>3475746

why do people samefag this obviously, it's just embarrassing

I only played Vigilante 8: Second Offense on the Dreamcast. One of my fave games back in the day
>>
>>3469693
Mr.Grimm actually has the weakest armor. Hit em with a freeze and ram into him and pretty much 3 quarters of his health is gone
>>
>>3476096
I would never EVER resort to sameguying, I oughta curb stomp you right now for even thinking of that.
>>
>>3477258

>>

Second Offence is really good, there is an unreasonable amount of content in that game.
>>
>>3477667
THIS was great because of the mighty mighty bosstones. it was a damn good game.. almost perfect.. you had to kill the other tour guide drivers before they took the little tourist guy to all the good photo ops. the sound FX was great on the game too.. it had many secret levels.... honestly it might have been better than twisted metal 2 but it never really did good with the kids because of the tourist implement.
>>
>>3475729
Everything in the 90s was edgy on purpose.
>>
>>3478314
Thank you, glad some one finally said it
>>
>>3473176
TM2: Thumper, Mr. Slam and Shadow
TM3: Auger
TMB: Yellow Jacket and Darkside
TMHO: Mr. Slam, Thumper and Shadow
TMPS3: Darkside, Outlaw and Shadow
>>
>>3467851
It was great but not perfect.
>>
>>3482382
Could you elaborate?
