I'm looking for a discussion about the forgotten subgenre of city-based flight-combat games, like G-police and Hardwar.
They have an unique feeling and I recently got an urge to play through a few, but I've mostly played G-police and dabbled a bit in Hardwar, so, what's your favorites? Which are the most shit? Any remakes in the making?
I must play Wing War on an R360 before I die. Based Sega.
I also liked Thunder Blade but mainly for its premium cab.

I remember playing one of these when I was about 8. Pretty cool concept that I wish had a modern revival. Multiplayer would be neat.

I played neither of the games you have mentioned, OP, but the screenshot reminded me of Helicops.
Crime Cities on the PC. I used to play this game a lot and remember it being pretty good, although it came out in 2000 so I don't know if it's considered retro by this board's strange rules.

I was thinking of this game the other day.
Would be nice to play a remake without the shitty draw distance and with some procedural city tech.
Not sure this is what you are looking for, but Urban Assault is an RTS combined with FPS where you can hop in any vehicle to control it manually and the battlefields are usually ruins of cities.
>>3467757
That looks fun, I might try that out.
>>3467656
Future shock had a bit of that!
There was an old game from 1999 called B-Hunter which is exactly what you describe, OP.
IDK if its any good because I only played the demo as a kid
How about Murakumo for original xbox? It's from the Armored Core guys (now known as the Dark Souls guys though)

G-Police and G-Police 2 where my favorite games. The graphics of the second where better, but I preferred the story of the first and how you didn't need to drive a walker/car/space fighter.
I still pop those games in occasionally and blast through them. In the first game, it takes me until the mission you need to stop the mining drops before I will die. The second game I will get into the later missions before I have any trouble.

I remember you could blow up bridge and traffic would drive endlessly to their death by plummeting into gap.

Yeah that was fucking awesome.

>RTS
>control units manually in first person
I don't know RTS games, but I've only seen Machines andNatural Selectionthat did this. It was cool.
>>3467656
if i dig out my pc copy will it work on windows 7?
>>3467656
armored core is pretty good for this, you get a similar vibe. you might as well be flying the entire time
>>3469420
No it doesn't.
>>3468789
Buddy, you might just found me a game I played a long ass time ago and tried to find ever since.
Gonna check it out right now.
>>3469434
AC is totally that 90's cyberpunk dogfight stuff. like appleseed
>>3469447
Same here, I think vague meories of this might be the reason i started the thread.

WARZONE 2100
It was a PS1 game, amazed me that I could command my fleet from the front. Now its abandonware and being re-made for PC.

Hm, seems like it's difficult to get to work well on a modern system, I get a low framerate and I don't think I can enable hardware acceleration. Pity.
>>3469492
I got it to work, but you wouldn't call WinXP a modern system.
Still, game seems to crash at random. Screen freezes but you can still hear shit happening in the background. More often than not happens then you explode for not apparent reason, while taking damage in combat shits fine.
It makes me think if its not some kind of copyright protection bullshit, because I cant make guy talking 'there's something wrong with your CD' shut up.
Either way, unless Ill find a way to stop this its either drop the game or try to get throu the whole chapter before the crash.

pic related.

Battlezone II did this pretty well too. It has a pretty active modding community.
There are some levels in the campaign in alien cities, and a fully-built base felt pretty big if you got out of your hovertank and walked around in it...
Any help with >>3469632 ?

The year is 2000. Nobody outside of Poland has ever heard of a little dev studio called Techland. Descent 3 is considered to have great graphics and gameplay.
Crime Cities, an open world action game that deserved to have done a lot better.

A game like this set on a Bernal sphere would be great. You wouldn't have to worry about map boundaries or draw distance, and you could get up to gravity-related shenanigans.
>>3467893
This game was the shit, i still remember the demo that came in the AOE Rise of Rome disk.
>>3469632
I got it to run well on win 8.1 but I also have random CTD's, and I cant find any help online anywhere.
>>3474351
CTD's?
>>3474354
nevermind, 'crash to desktop', figured it out.
Mine dont really crash to desktop tho.
Maybe its something system specific? Like it NEEDS to run on 98 or something?
>>3474360
I tried it now and fiddled with the compatibility-settings a bit, I changed to XP-service pack 2 (from service pack 3) and I managed to play for about 10 minutes with no crash until i quit to continue studying, perhaps it's reasonably stable now. Running win 8.1.
>>3474360
Ok, now I've finished the tutorial and I get the same issue you have, the game spazzes out sometimes when I bump in to something I think, it's like you clip into it and enter that Doom-noclip-space but orange.
>>3474461
Its more like when something dies, a civilian or something, game doesn't know what to do with itself.
Throu freezed screen I can see that it gives me absurdly large fines and all weapons.
Shits weird.
>>3467757
Yes! I loved that game! Much better than G-police imo
>>3467757
you people remember that one mission, where you had to follow some loon ad infinitum?
