Why cheating is bad ? or good ?
>>
>>3463604
Who gives a fuck. These are offline games.
>>
>>3463604
The only person you're cheating is yourself out of playing the game. If you're cool with that, it's all good.

Multiplayer is a different situation though.
>>
>>3463607
>implying people only cheat offline
I know someone who cheats at online reversi.
>>
>>3463621
I wasn't implying that.
I meant cheating is only bad when you do it online, because it affects the other people who play.
If you cheat on a retro game, it's your own fault. I won't go autismo over it.
If you cheat on a multiplayer retro game, then player 2 can punch you in the arm.
>>
>>3463607
When did I mention online or offline games ? Just answer the question faggot.
>>
>>3463604
It can help you through parts of the game you do not care for. I use money cheats in games because i do not care to grind for money.
>>
>>3463656
I did queer.

cheats are fine, they can get you out of a 'stuck on a level' rut so you actually finish the game, and can help you actually win against casinos. if card counting is 'cheating'. also things like calculating how long it would take to grind for cash to buy items vs just using gameshark (looking at you phantasy star...im not doing 500+ battles for the first set of gear...)

cheating online isn't always bad either, some nice guy duplicated some hacked guns for a pal of mine on dead island, explosive round rifle, thank you sir.

it is not however ok to cheat in an online competative environment when you arn't admin testing things, cause your cheating the rules of the competition and thats real lame, and you should be shot irl.

>XSS detected
the ironing. stop 'cheating' my internet.
>>
>>3463683
git gud faggot.
>>
I prefer to give up and come back to it days, weeks, months, even years later. Let it cook in there, it's really nice to overcome a challenge you gave up 6 months before. Once I cheat I pretty much lose the interest I had to that particular challenge, so in a way, when I cheat, I ruin it for myself.
>>
As long as you're not cheating in a competitive environment (i.e. online or high scores/time trials), you're good.
>>
Honestly, "cheating" can actually change a game that you enjoy to add different obstacles or added difficulty like the famous "PIGPOG" code in SMB (try it, it adds firebars, weird platforms, hammer bros, random Bowsers all over the place)...

But IMO even offline if it's to make your own game easier, play hide-and-go-fuck-yourself, git gud.

Is game genie still a thing ?
>tfw I had an action replay on psX
>>
Contrary to what everyone else says, Video games are about fun.

Cheats can make some games fun to play.

Look at the Tony Hawk games, or Spiderman on PS2. Theres a lot of shit in there that's just fun.
>>
The virgin playthrough should never have cheats. Git gud and beat the game. Afterwards, cheats are a lot of fun, but it could change your play experience forever for the game. Also, The Game.
>>

I don't care. I think the last time I cheated in a game to advance(i.e uy wasn't something like moon physics, rubber bullets, big head small body, lame for fun stuff) was mega Man legends like 3 years ago, I didn't feel like running around collecting money, it's not that I couldnt, but it's just not fun. Why play if it's not fun? The games super easy, it's not like there's any sense of accomplishment by spending an hour or 2 running in and out of rooms blasting the same respawning enemies. RPGs can be different though, in some of them the grind is just part of the game. I wouldn't cheat with that.

And I'll use unlock cheats for competitive games, like anything with unlockable characters or arenas, just because I only play those games with my bros for fun, not to go through hours of unlocking our favorites. Unlocking things is fun, and I'll do it with games I'm playing alone, but this is more about doing all you can with limited time.

But I don't do things like infinite lives or god mode, that's just not fun, there's no challenge at that point. I don't care if anyone else does it, or if they brag about beating a game by doing it.

But what about cheats put in by developers? I personally think level select codes are great on games with no saving or passwords, makes it so you don't have to take down a 2 hour game in one setting, or leave your console on till the next time you're free. Are using cheats the developers put in playing the game "as the developers intended?"
>>
Do you guys use Cheat Engine? What do you think? I heard of it but I don't know if it's safe for my computer. What can I do with it? A pal of mine told me it's like game genie for PC. If so it's cool I'm going to try that but advices first.
>>
Cheats are cool, especially fun retro cheats like "BIG HEAD MODE", where the hell did those go?!

The problem is re-release of retro games that include cheats and call them "features". Like recent releases of FF7/8/9.

I have a Saturn Gameshark and found codes, including somes that let you swap character models around in Resident Evil and therefore play as Rebecca or Barry.

I was very sad to realize these codes didn't work with the PAL version.

>I know someone who cheats at online reversi.
wait what the fuck do people cheat on reversi?
>>
>>3464975
Safe, not safe to use on steam or other online services, some anti-viruses will detect it, as it modifies ram on the fly, but holy shit once you learn how to use it, it's too effective.
>>
>>3463757
Post more example codes that make games harder man, I want to know more about those!

I heard of the SMB one but, man those must be awesome.
>>
>>3465060
You use external programs to calculate the optimal moves.
>>
>>3465075
That's cheating but indirectly, the software would act more like a recommendation agent than a cheat to win your games, a human could do that job just fine, btw using this shit at reversi would make you a total loser, cheating at those games? It's a game of strategy not pure skill, seriously.
>>
>>3465067
>modifying ram on the fly

what's the practical difference between hacking/cheating at this point?
>>
Why all the drama around online cheating? Seriously tho, why about just cheating for fun in solo games? Why does that sound so unacceptable to so many players?

Well I remember how this GG device was appreciable of my efforts to not start everything again in Aladdin. I wasn't even considering it as cheating. Then I remember my buddies at school "he's cheater!", 2 years or so before Sega and Nintendo put memory card on the market kek. We were nothing but ahead of our times.
