I replayed it for the first time in awhile recently and had a good time with it. There are some stupid bits, but it's pretty successful at what it tries to do.

Yeah, the bit reminds me lavandonia theme, quitely rendondant, mgs1 and 2 are easier about gameplay, mg1 and 2 are the hardest ihmo.
About the development, story and graphic i agree, mgs3 > mgs1 > mgs2. I don't consider em so retro.

It's like stealth Legend of Zelda which is fine. Probably Hideo Kojima's best game, judged purely on gameplay.
