I'm pretty sure Breath of Fire IV is the best-looking jRPG done this way

>Chantelise: A Tale of Two Sisters
Looks pretty interestingalbeit not retro
I've always loved that kind of aesthetics. Sucks that nobody mixes sprites with 3D anymore.
>>3444758
Comfy as fuck
>>3444734
Nippon-Ichi still does.
I often feel like I'm the only person who ever played this game.

Not retro.
imagine here pictures of Mario Kart 64 and MDK
Plus the build engine games, which could also be added to the "games that use voxels" thread.
>>3444691
is BoF 4 a good game?
>>3445528
Nice visuals but it brings nothing new to the jrpg scene

>build engine games, which could also be added to the "games that use voxels" thread

>>3445530
Has there ever been a game that brought anything new to JRPG scene?
>>3445550

Fire Emblem does.
what is this kind of thing actually called?
The three newest SRWOG games (PS3 / PS4) also use 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds for battle animations.

I started Grandia recently but I keep getting beat by Chang.

>raycasters
Orthogonal projectors.

Dude just don't use bilinear filtering and you'll be alright.
Never see the visual style of the P2 games get talked about
Most people complained at the time of this game's release that the graphics were outdated because most games were transitioning to full 3D at the time. But to me it always looked (and still looks) beautiful, Specially love the light and shaodw effects they used.
>>3447205
>light behind the character
>characters shadow is facing the light instead of away from it
yeeah, I wouldn't be praising those lightning & shadow effects.
>>3447212
That's true, and is an awful mistake.
But what I meant I meant was how the characters get darker when they are far from the light and brighter when they are close to it. In other part of the games they would get affected by colored lights too. Pic related.
Nothing impressive today, but back then it blew my mind, and still looks way better than MK4 to me.
>>3446980
it's a full perspective projection, you got two vanishing points and everything
>>3445534
Well he is technically right, shadow warrior and blood have voxel pickup items i believe.
>>3448406
that's why I asked. Got pics of them?
