Is Dino Crisis any good? I've always thought of it as 'Resident Evil with dinosaurs' but I don't know anything about it. I've been going through all the classic Resident Evils and I'm working my way through Chris's story in Code Veronica and was planning on playing Dino Crisis afterwards.

Yeah its great

It's pretty much Resident Evil with dinosaurs alright

Up to you if you like Resident Evil or dinosaurs enough to give it a try

That's exactly what it is. It's my third favorite RE game on the PSX.

what is your second favorite game on the psx

Oh check out dino crisis 2, its action adventure though.

Avoid the dino crisis 3, xbox turns every old franchise into crap.

wat this guy said
>>
>>3436429
It is Resident Evil with dinosaurs. The strange thing is, despite the silly concept, it pulls the "survival horror" thing off better than most if not all of the classic Resident Evil games. Supplies are scarce, and even if you have enough ammo to take something down you're often better off avoiding conflict. The game's most common basic enemies present a very serious threat, especially in numbers. Planning a good route can be important, as you can avoid a lot of trouble by sticking to the ducts whenever possible and making use of the base's security measures.

You should definitely check the game out if you enjoy the genre.
>>

w-why is she doing this
>>
greatest PSX game ever.
>>
It is RE with dinosaurs, but the dinos are faster and more intimidating than zombies IMO. It's a fun game with the same kind of B-movie appeal the early RE games had.
>>
Also Dino Crisis 2 is totally different. It's more of a fast paced arcadey action game but it's actually a lot of fun.

It's legit pretty great. Like was said above it's actually really tense and nerve wracking. You really need to plan shit out and learn the lay of the land. One slip up and you can get FUCKED
>>
>>3436429
Yes I love it. I'd go so far as to say I like it more than RE3.
>>
>>3436576

Racking up combos is pretty fun, actually. Obviously it's a huge change from the survival horror themes of the original, but it's also sort of nice that they tried to make the franchise find it's own ground to stand on.

>>3437448

I would as well. RE3 was far too easy. It's difficult to feel stressed when you have so much supplies thrown at you. I don't know if that's really a merit for Dino Crisis, though, since it's more because RE3 was sort of bad.

Wow I haven't thought about dino crisis in years. I always remembered it as an awesome game as a kid, was pretty hard from what i remember too.
>>
If you ask me, as far as the AITD/RE style is concerned, Dino Crisis is the best survival horror.

Mikami went as hardcore as he could with the mechanics, while still making the game fun and fair.

For instance, most of the time you'll be putting enemy to sleep rather than killing them.

Also in Resident Evil, you get one key which (most of the time) unlocks several doors. In DC, for EACH door, you not only need 2 keys, but also to find a password with the help of a file.

And it's crazy good.

RE2
RE1
Then Dino Crisis

>>3436473
It's hot.
>>
What is the best version of Dino Crisis Ps1 or Dreamcast?
I have only played Ps1 version.
>>
>>3437581
PC and Dreamcast are the best versions. Compared to those PS1 version has less content, looks worse, and has longer loading times (in DC and PC transitions between camera angles are seemless).

Dreamcast looks even slightly better than PC, better shading. Go for that.

Also let me tell you, play DC2 on Hard if you haven't. You really haven't played DC2 if you haven't played it on Hard.
Great game, I love it, although half way through the game it drops the cake, I mean it has this great action gameplay going on and suddenly it drops it in favour of gimmicky shit like turret fights. Shame.
>>
>>3436429
The first DC is pretty much RE but with dinosaurs, which is exactly what makes it better than RE, Dinosaurs>>>Zombies.
Jokes aside, it's pretty good and polished, though DC2 is a true masterpiece if you like something a bit more arcade-y.
>>3437601
>suddenly it drops it in favour of gimmicky shit like turret fights.
Fuck off NESfag, fighting Nessies with turrets was the tightest shit ever.
>>
>>3437613
Yeah, the mini games are fun, but the 2nd half of the game is way too focused on them.

You have
>turret fight on the boat against Nessies
>turret fight on the bridge of the river against Raptors
>turret fight against Triceratops on the jeep
>Tank ride against T-Rex

And then when you're back to classic gameplay you get a fucking escort mission! huugh

These gimmicks take way too much place over the core gameplay of the game.
>>
You can't call yourself a survival horror fan and not play this game. It's a classic.

Well, on that you're right, I personally didn't mind though, especially because the finale of the first DC blew me away back in the days so I have a weak spot for that kind of gimmick.
Or maybe I just watched too much Getter Robo, anyway, fuck dinosaurs.
>>
>>3437601

Wait what? Did they add anything to the other versions? Extra game modes? Some new gun? I didn't know about that.
>>
>>3437474
>xbox
>>
>>3437702
IIRC 2 new costumes as well as the Very Hard mode. Could be wrong though it's been a long time but IIRC Very Hard isn't in the PS1 version.

Funny thing about very hard mode is that I actually found it easier: you can die more easily, but you also get a lot more deadly ammo (grenade launcher ammo iirc) and therefore can kill most enemies, rather than put them to sleep.
>>
>>3437720
Nice, time to replay Dino Crisis I guess.

Still waiting for my new DC game
>>

this, one of my personal favorites
>>

scarier than any RE game imo
also doesn't have fixed camera angles
and the dinos respawn
>>
>>3437458
I have very vague memories of Dino Crisis 2, but I remember something like staying in one of the first areas in the game with the shotgun and making an incredibly high combo on infinitely spawning raptors, which I think gave me some sort of benefit in return. How did the game work again, gave you ammo for points or something?
>>
>>3438289
Yeah, killing things efficiently gave you points, it took what Parasite Eve did and improved it
>>
>>3438289
There is a timed combo system indeed.

Also, when you kill a certain number of enemies without getting hit, you get a bonus when leaving the room. I think it's like 10 enemies killed without getting hit for a bonus and 15 or 20 for an even bigger bonus.

Enemies don't infinitely respawn. There is a set limit to how many will spawn in each room. Then, you can exit and re-enter the room to start it over but that too is limited to a certain number of times, at least in most rooms and on Hard (I don't remember in normal difficulty, but you'll be getting so much points, which is money, in that difficulty that you won't need to re-enter a room anyway).
>>
I heard something about a remastered version similar to REmake was underway a few years ago. Anyone know what happened or if it was even seriously considered?
>>
>>3438480
this would be too good to be true
>>
>I've always thought of it as 'Resident Evil with dinosaurs' but I don't know anything about it.

It is Resident Evil with dinosaurs.

It also has the occasional third person camera (that follows you around for a few seconds) and you can move while shooting. RE 1, 2, and 3 had none of these.
>>
Dino crisis 3 is great you fags are dumb
>>
>>
>>3438515

Only issue I have with DC3 is that it's confusing as fuck to navigate. It's really hard to figure out where to go.
>>
>>3436465
I enjoyed Dino Crisis 3. Obviously it's worse than the 2 but I enjoyed myself.
>>
>people defending DC3

never thought Id live to see the day
>>
I loved Dino Crisis 1 and 2. I really loved 2 because going around blowing dinosaurs away was a lot more fun. There were so many weapons too.
If there were going to be another Dino Crisis, what would you like to see in it?

First and foremost Regina.

though to be honest Im not really sure where TO take it after that. If DC1 was Alien and DC2 was Aliens there's really nowhere to go but down.
>>
>>3441709
>If DC1 was Alien and DC2 was Aliens there's really nowhere to go but down.

Now it all makes sense.

>>
>>3437474
Pandering to Xbox gamers. Look at that douchebag for fucks sake!
>>
>>3437474
Honestly the biggest problem with the game (the cheesy tone was fairly close to that in dc 1 & 2) was that they attempted to create a mobility system and control scheme in the same mold as Gunvalkyrie, but didnt build the game around those difficult controls like Gunvalkyrie did. Also using ammo to unlock doors sucks in every game that isnt metroid.
