I'd say because the fireball damage is relatively the same compared to an imp, maybe?

Also I've seen complaints from slaughter enthusiasts about how the caco's corpse is too big, there's even a patch out there for that.

No, cause last I saw Reelism was incompatible with Zandronum; but looking again I guess someone somewhere modded it to work in Zan? Even thouggh I can't find it.

Okay, so an hour or so later I now have Zan 3.0 with Reelism running and trying to use Doomseeker, but I ran into a hitch.

I actually have no idea what you're talking about desu, I'm just trying to use it to host a server for my friends to play on, and its turning out way more complicated than I expected. And more complicated than the previously presented guides made it look.

I can change the server password, but it says MY password is wrong even when it matches. More so, any changes I make; even to server command line, does not save. What gives?

I'm sorry, I'm a dumbass. Can someone tell me how to save settings in DarkPlaces?

Whenever I restart the client the settings revert to default. I tried the "saveconfig" command explained in the readme but that isn't doing anything. I can't seem to find any apparent config file in the directory that I can fuck around with either.

The difficulty spike in map12 just made me loose it. I went through 2 wormholes full of shit and then I stumble upon a third one and die to spooky skeletons.
I haven't beaten the map but the fact that I was at least mostly enjoying it reasonably up to that point just made me pissed, I don't like save scumming but it feels like this map almost needs it.

So uh, how would you guys feel if I just made the Blazter unable to fire if you have no ammunition? You could still do charge attacks (if you have them) and use subshots, but the primary fire would be unusable without ammo.

I wanna do this because it'd remove the need to add an overheat mechanic when you're out of ammo, it'd also make bullets more valuable, as well as make subweapons more valuable seeing as they're technically infinite as well.

Sorry about the late response, but yes I was using doomseeker to try to host a simple server through 'create game' in order to just dick around on reelism with friends. But I have a question or two.

1. Why am I unable to change anything? I change server password, but it doesn't apply ingame and I always seem to connect with the default 'password' password.
2. How do I turn off respawning, or at the very least make it limited? Reelism is a bit bizarre being able to respawn every single time you get fucked.

I've thought about making the eyeflames of the blazter change color, but that'd mean they would never be red again after picking up one of the upgrades. In particular, just Monster Hunter and it's not really with guns at all. Its Great Sword is a hit & run weapon that goes up to three levels of charge for fuckhuge damage before dropping it down to the second if you overcharge by mistake, and the Hammer uses different attacks depending on how long the player holds the charge on that. In a melee scenario it makes sense given the size of openings not always being generous.

Though for ranged, there is the Bow where different charge level for various bows can result in a different shot type (rapid/spread/pierce), but for the last two games there's that only bow worth two fucks in either, both of which just basically want to hit the last charge level which is a rapid type. And before then there was the fucking Kelbi Bow in MH3U that was basically spamming the first spread charge level to effortlessly win.

I wanna do this because it'd remove the need to add an overheat mechanic when you're out of ammo, it'd also make bullets more valuable, as well as make subweapons more valuable seeing as they're technically infinite as well.

not him but actually one of the main reasons I even bothered with the classic view in doom 4 was so that I could get a proper spacial view of my surroundings, which I couldn't achieve with the guns being placed aside, and it does precisely that for me. also because the game was fun as fuck so the more excuses to replay the campaign again the better.

It might have had more to do with the fact that I'm way more familiar with centered guns in FPSs in general since I play doom a lot so it was more of a rebreather for me than anything else. I for one simply can't stand offset guns outside of 2D sprites, and even then most featured in Doom mods tend to look rough and awkward to me due to the static, stiff appereance Doom guns have which make them look even more off-putting that way. They also take way too much screen space that way.

sorry to bump in on your post but am I the only one who feels burnt out with D4D?

like, there's not much to do after grinding to get that one last upgrade you won't even ever use because the mod balance is completely screwed over and one of the two you have available is sure to single out the other. the upgrade system feels really shallow, the monsters quickly become tiresome and annoying to fight, also it might just be me but outside of the pistol and the plasma rifle being touched upon (which somewhat keeps them from being as useless as they were in D4 but at the same time makes them feel awkward and wrong in a way) most guns have this really wimpy and stiff feel to them, and stuff like the shotgun being made more accurate seems redundant to me since it makes the HAR completely lose it original purpose. being able to carry around double SSGs is kinda dumb to me.

There's gonna be two of them (one for the rocket launcher pickup, the other will be the plasma gun). The wave cannon is a new take on the current charge that's in GMOTA right now, rather than one big shot that explodes, it's gonna be a spray of smaller projectiles that do small splash damage, think of the charge cannon from Super R-Type. Hyper is gonna be a temporary overclock on the cannon, turning it big and letting you shoot spikeballs that hit like trucks.

After using either charge attack there'll be an overheat/cooldown period where you can't use the Blazter at all, forcing players to switch back to the sword in the mean time, Hyper mode will enforce a longer cooldown though.

I'm still gonna leave subshots fairly stronk, though the rolling bomb's radius is gonna go down a bit. I'm also going to make the missile and bomb more dangerous to use because I'm gonna make them inflict self damage.

Right now the plan is to make the subshots work like subweapons in terms of ammo: You get a set number of uses, and when you run out, you have to wait for a restock, though with subshots the cap is way lower.

and one of my biggest goals here is to return focus on the sword, so making the Blazter more of a dangerous, slower to use weapon will help a lot, but if it keeps its utility and range, then it's still useful.

I don't like to shit talk any of the Doom games, but Doom 2 is just so flawed aside from the awesome new enemies and the SSG

Is it just me or are the songs in Doom 2 really lackluster? Aside from D_RUNNIN which is almost unanimously accepted as being worst than Hitler's farts, the rest of the songs are just meh. Doom 1's songs, even the non-metal ones, were fucking ace. And so were the songs in Final Doom. Doom 2's OST varies from lukewarm to bad.

Also sharpening killed my previous attempt. I thought at 1.0 I will get no pixelbleed, but I was wrong. At 0.0-0.3 everything is blurred, at 0.4-0.6 everything is about right, at 0.7 environment starts to bleed onto the border pixels.

After 3 or 4 days I finally finished all five episodes of Strange Aeons.

All in all it was a pretty good time. Level design was a bit hit or miss overall, but the lows are infrequent and the highs are so very good. The new enemies were mostly nothing special, having hitscan enemies were as much of a pain as always. Lots of opportunities for infighting, which was good because the weapon selection was small and not very impressive. Basically it's the standard Doom loadout, minus the pistol, plasma gun*, and BFG. You start each map with the chainsaw equivalent and your hands.

The new powerups were interesting, though not always useful. The mutant one is fun, but it's kind of just a limited berserk pack that gives you some limited invulnerability, stops you from collecting any additional ammo/health/armor, and then wears off. The increased firing speed and infinite ammo powerups were great in big arenas and for boss fights, but every other time I feel like I found them after already clearing the majority of enemies out from an area, which speaks more to their placement rather than their usefulness.

And Bosses, the boss monsters are interesting. Well, two boss monsters are interesting and the other one not quite as much. Luckily the shitty one you only run into once. The the others are basically cyberdemons with either tunneling or resurrection powers, so while not exactly super exciting they at least provided a decent challenge. Especially since you often fight multiple at a time. The first boss you get to is kind of annoying, but you get a special weapon for the fight (and only this fight) that's basically a plasma gun which can stunlock the boss if you get him into a good position, which was good because it has a really annoying attack that is tough to avoid. I also felt this boss took way too long to die.

All in all, I think I'd give it a solid B. All the little annoyances were offset by some amazing map design. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

For me, I played Doom back in 1993 on an 8 inch CRT in the middle of the hardest drought in decades. We all had to work together to preserve as much water as possible because not only was there no water, it was blisteringly hot as well. The smell was revolting, which is still surprising to this day because it shouldn't smell. I don't want to know why it smelled rotten. I vomited then and there and it got on her shoes, which only made this worse. She took a handful of the rank vaseline and put it in my mouth. I gagged and coughed when it slipped back down my throat. She pushed me onto the floor and left while I tried to scrape my mouth clean. That night I couldn't sleep. Instead, I sat down in the living room, turned on the computer, and tried to play Doom. When I got to the zombie by the armor and I fired that first shot, the aliased gunshot hit the room like a small lawnmower. My hand must have slipped on the volume, I never keep it that high, but it didn't matter. My mom was awake.

She screamed at me to turn down the game, and while the zombies were grunting and shooting I tried and tried to turn down the volume, but I couldn't grip the thin knob. I don't know what compelled me to do it, but in a simple childlike thought process I went outside and rubbed my face on the dead grass. It was then that I finally started to cry. If I couldn't sleep earlier, it definitely wasn't happening now. I unplugged the speakers, plugged the computer back in, and turned it on. It was sticky and smelled terrible, covered in an off-yellow gel. I wiped it off as best as I could with my Metallica shirt that my friend gave me from a concert he went to. Neither of them were the same after that, and neither was I. The text on the screen was almost unreadable, the icons hazy shapes, but what choice did I have?

I sat down, loaded Doom, and played E1M1 again.

Just replace weapons as you need them. I was the same as you when I started, wanting everything to have an equivalent, but as I got working on my weapons I realized that depending on what you're doing you may not need something for every 'slot,' or something to have a direct equivalent for everything that Doom has. Especially if you're giving anything an alt fire or modes or even melee attacks.

a modless gun in doom 4, or in any doom 4 inspired mod is prone to be the least used in any case, youve got a perfectly fine plasma rifle with two really strong mods, and both effortlessly shit all over stuff like the lightning gun, and two scopes for two differnet weapons both of which easily overcome the vortex rifle and its low DPS
