How could they make all the original Pokemon R/B/Y and G/S/C sound so beautiful?
>>
Gen 1-2 are painful to my ears

It's a little abrasive anon. It most likely attempts to compensate for the GB's abysmal speakers.

Nice tune tho
>>
It's Game Boy, fucking everything on it sounds great.
>>
>>3414719
As with every chiptune, no. It's super easy to fuck up and make it ear bleeding.

>>3414671
Good composer and almost no noise channel. Gives it a really soft feeling.

Stop fucking up your video links you nigger faggot.
>>

The only great Pokemon games. R/S/E was the swan song of the series. It should have ended there or at least reinvented itself if the franchise had to continue. New pokemon designs should have definitely ended with 3rd gen. Arguably maybe even the second or first gen.
>>
>>3414875
Growing up with with generations 1-3 was the best. Everything after that just seems like garbage. Though, I've never actually played anything after RSE.
>>
RBY sounds pretty grating to me, but a lot of GSC tracks sound so beautiful.
I think it's the natural vibe that Johto goes for as opposed to Kanto's industrialism.
This is reflected in the pokemon designs, the cities, and most importantly the music.
>>
Gen 1 and 2 music filled the entire frequency spectrum, giving every song a nice weight and full sound. The grittiness of its sounds due to its low bitrate also gave it really nice character, similar to old sampling machine.

I'm really sad that Gen 3 and onward took the beef out of all the sounds, and used nasty MIDI sounding samples. They also ditched the great melodies full of crazy arpeggios for more emotional sounding stuff, but the emotional stuff just falls completely flat.
>>
>>3414908
Firered and Leafegreen were pretty good. Diamond Pearl and Platinum were so-so. Heartgold and Soulsilver were pretty amazing and those are the last Pokemon games I've played. Everything after that seemed kinda dull really.
>>
>>3414908
Youre the worst sort of person. At least play them before you bash them. Its more like 1-4 honestly, 4 was the point where you can tell its about to become overly formulaic
>>
>>3414908
Gen 4 was its peak, at least gameplay wise. That's when music started going downhill especially. At least some of the tracks from FR/LG was really good. Just listen to this bassline:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY_yecbricw
>>
>>3414908
Eh, you're almost right but there were about three notable games you missed. Gen 4 has some good gameplay and an interesting postgame at least when talking about Platinum and HGSS, because it binds together the new attack/special mechanics with a returning Frontier. FRLG and HGSS are both examples of the good kind of remakes with only little squabbles (more in FRLG than HGSS), and are worth playing at least once. Most times except for BW2, Game Freak just sat down and let the Internet fulfill most of the postgame obligations, sans a simple Battle Tower rendition.

I never did like B/W onward though. I like a couple of the Pokemon designs but that's about it, VI just made it worse by only putting in the bare minimum of new 'mons and .simultaneously balancing and throwing completely out of wack the game mechanics, and honestly Emerald did R/S better than the remakes did.
>>
>>3415729
Shit, I've never even heard that bassline thanks to the GBA's shitty speaker.
>>
>>3415054
RBY is grating because Masuda had no idea how to program a decent Game Boy sound engine.
>>
>>3415821
I think another reason why that track is so good is because it doesn't use bad MIDI sounding samples, and it's mostly retro sounding in its instrumentation like the soundtrack of the original games. I wish FR/LG's whole soundtrack were like this, the original tracks but built upon. Unfortunately, there's no other remade tracks that's as good as the Rival Encounter Theme imo.
>>
>>3415059
Gen 3 also had great music, imo. Gen 4 and 5 had some good tracks, though. Only theme from Gen 6 that really stood out to me was Snowbelle City
>>
>>3415729
Gen 4 has some of the best music in the series you enormous faggot and this is an objective truth. And honestly the music never went downhill. This is coming from someone who has played every mainline entry, Pokemon music has always been good and still is.

But Gen 4 particularly had some of the best battle themes. These three alone are among the best in the entire series.

Yeah it's unfair of me to say it's bad honestly, it just went in a direction that I don't like. The best track from Gen 4 has to be the song that plays on the piano in the villa.

HG/SS lost a lot of the feel of the original tracks by making them really weak orchestral songs. I can't conveniently link right now since I'm on mobile, but listen to the gym music in GSC then in HGSS. The original has an obvious rock sound to it that's completely lost in the remake, losing a lot of its impact, going in a completely different direction that doesn't feel appropriate, and just not doing the original justice at all.
>>
>>3415843
HGSS had this problem too but worse in my opinion. A lot love it, but the whole thing just sounded way too "epic" for my taste. The stuff with the legendary birds does this approach some justice however.
>>
>>3415729
FRLG's music is so fucking grating to me, especially the trainer battle music. It's so fucking busy and there's so much shit going on with the drums and stuff it's just gives me a headache
>>
>>3415808
You forget how Platinum referenced the PokeGod rumors of the retro games a bit.

>>3417102
At least it isn't le meme trumpets of the sea.
>>
>>3414813
... what?
>>
>>3417097
Yeah, I completely agree. The gym theme in HG/SS makes me so sad because it completely throws out the rock influence of the original to do this epic orchestral sound that just falls flat. Just compare the two:

All of that, and the timbres they chose for a lot of the sounds just don't really work that well.
>>
ITT: nostalgia goggled retards who never played anything past gold saying that music went shit after gold

Pokemon Ruby - Trumpet Edition
>>
>>3414908
I actually don't mind there being new games and like some of the new Pokémon/locations/etc., but for whatever reason I really only like the aesthetic of the gen 1/2 games.

Probably nostalgia, but I don't know, I played gen 3 when it came out and that was over a decade ago by now. Something about the simple style was pretty charming. Plus sprites that didn't just look like the standard clip art used everywhere.

This actually hurt my ears listening to this

Imo making the world 3D was a mistake for DS games, especially when everything else was sprites.
>>
>>3418940
I kind of liked the idea of DPP and HGSS because it reminded me of PS1 games like BoF3, but onwards it just looked worse.
