Any Retro games with motherfucking Cthulu?
>>3405495
no because lovecraft was a literal aspie and cthulhu is tumblr tier
>>3405495
Maybe
Shadow of the Comet.
Also Quake 2 had Shub-Niggurath
>>3405509
You are trying too hard, kid.
Shows up in SotN under the name of Malachi for whatever reason.
>>3405581
They swapped the name with this guy in the US release, to avoid a lawsuit by whoever has the rights to Lovecraft's work.
>>3405601
>whoever has the rights to Lovecraft's work
That would be nobody
>>3405641
Nowadays. But in the 90s it was more complicated. Lovecraft killed himself in 1937 so copyrights expired in 1988 for countries with lifetime plus 50 years such as Japan but the EU for instance extended the term in 1995 which retroactively put it back until 2008.
US copyright is another complex issue with the Copyright Extension act in 1998 preventing more things from falling into the public domain until 2023.
>>3405548
Pretty sure you meant Quake 1
>>3405769
Fucking Hitlerdisney Rothschild analsex cucks
>>3405769
Pretty sure nobody has ever held the copyright for Cthulhu. Which is the reason why anyone can make a mythos story and publish it since forever.
>>3405769
He died of cancer.
God damn there's a lot of shitty threads on here lately. Oh well, at least it's better than "redpill me on x"
>>3406091
I see redpill threads on /k/ all the time these days, fucking cancer.
>>3406253
What Lovecraft wanted and what people who hold the rights want are two rather different things.
>>3406258
>people who hold the rights
Nobody does.
Literally anyone can make Cthulhu mythos stories or movies and sell them.
>>3406258
Nobody inherited Lovecraft's estate or intellectual property because he married a Jew and didn't believe in race mixing.
>>3406258
wrong
>>3405769
Even so, Lovecraft took the rights with him to the grave, effectively putting it into the public domain as the sole person who can uphold the rights is unable to represent himself in court.
You can PLAY as the motherfucking Cthulhu in Pray for Death

Unfortunately copyright law doesn't work like that.

Not strictly Lovecraftian or anything, but there's Dark Seed, an interesting point and click adventure game which was officially licensed by H.R Giger himself to use his artworks as assets for the game, this was under the condition that the game would display in 256 colors and in 640x350 high resolution, to adequately display his artwork (yet the actual gameplay and environments only ever take up about 40% of the screen, the bottom half being used to display text, and the rest of the onscreen graphics being an elaborately detailed frame)
They spent months scanning and digitizing his art, then another good few months recoloring it as it initially ended up looking too gray and washed out. The main character uses the name and likeness of the project lead (or was it head artist?), Mike Dawson, who they digitized and put in the game.
It's a very interesting game, especially visually, but on the conceptual level, and on the gameplay level, it kind of just doesn't work very well.
The story and setting is kind of like an afterthought, like they had made these environments but not really thought about exactly what they would be used for, and then just added some very loosely held together by a vague story, and nonsense gameplay.
This game came out in 92', there were no online strategy guides, and the logic in the game never much holds up that well, solutions to puzzles are esoteric, and you only have three days of gameplay, events and actions only being correct on certain days, you have to basically replay the game over and over and figure things out by attrition or wild chance, and then what order it goes in, it's very King's Quest tier like that, and again, this was in 92, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis was the number one specimencof point and click adventures.
It's worth checking out gameplay footage of the game, because really it's very unique, but Dark Seed II fixes most of the inherent problems, actually working much better as an adventure game.

There's a Cthulhu Digimon named Dagomon who appeared in the old Wonderswan games Anode and Cathode Tamer, and Digimon World 2 and 3 for the PS1. Also it tried to rape Kari in the anime in a weird lovecraft episode in the second season if anyone doesn't remember it.
>>3409537
It looks way cooler in his artwork though. He was also in a few virtual pets.
>>3407430
Is there an archive of ripped assets from the game? I'd love to see it to appreciate the art but it sounds like a horrible game.
>>3405509
Fucking heathen
>>3409537
Dagomon didn't even fall through. All that happened was that Kari met the deep ones. They mention their leader before they leave. It was supposed to be a precursor to Dagomon's appearance, but it never happened.
Instead we only get to see Marinedevimon temporarily.

Honestly, watch some playthroughs on Youtube in 720p or higher, it's worth it to see the visuals in action (some of then animation is quite cool), also maybe see if you can find some additional footage of minor things.
Someone who plays with a guide or from memory should be able to finish the game in 20 minutes or so, it really just took weeks back in the day because there isn't really any logic to reasonably figure out, if you know what to do and on what day, it goes pretty smoothly.
Also don't watch someone play the CD32 version or the NES bootleg (that's right, some crazy Chicom somewhere, back in the day, ported Dark Seed to the NES, in all the glitchy, low color glory that entailed), the visuals aren't as good and the music will give you a migraine.
The actual voiced lines are some of the worst I've ever heard since Symphony Of The Night, nobody says these things or talks like that, but thankfully the game is pretty sparse with spoken lines.
I can't say there's a huge point in ripping the graphics, at least from the dark world part of the game, because as said before, a lot of it is just made from actual H.R Giger art, if you're familiar with his work you'll recognize a bunch of setpieces plain repurposed for the game (there's even a very brief appearance of a xenomorph, who gives you an item).
>>3409557
nigga you blind.
>>3405581
>to avoid lawsuit
no, it was just a fucking typo
>>3405495
It's a boss in El Viento for Genesis. Also a lot of enemies are based on other Lovecraftian creatures.
>>3409580
Forgetful.
But, he didn't do anything.
>>3406059
And cancer is your body killing itself which means it's suicide.
>>3405509
This. People only started to care about Lovecraft outside of tabletop boardgames when he became an Internet meme.
>>3406253
Lovecraft fans a generally retarded.
>>3410742
I want them all to be turned into little girls. Am I retarded?
>>3412165
Boku pic no related.
>>3410739
He was nerd/geek popular before there was any internet to speak of.
But I do agree Lovecraft's writing gets a lot more cred than it deserves and his fans are frequently insufferable. The internet made it apparent to more people, but it's always been that way.
>>3412162
That's interesting.
>>3406253
you be one of them
Soul Reaver. The asshole that bosses you around is a Cthulu. Play the Dreamcast version.
Cthulu Saves the World
>>3405601
Shit like this is why the fan translation exists.
>>3410739
That's bullshit. Lovecraft is the tolkien of the horror genre and was always there!

Well, more to say he is the father of modern horror. Influencing the likes of Stephen King.
