>>
RCA introduced the design commonly used for composite signals.

Any cable with an RCA connector is technically an RCA cable.
>>
>>3389915
1. It is misleading to say RCA when you mean composite, as non-composite RCA cables exist.
2. They are called RCA connectors, not RCA cables.

Then what do you call YPbPr component cables with RCA connectors?
>>

>>

>Being too precise to function in the real world
>>
>>3389932
That's impossible. One can't be too precise.
>>
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as RCA cables, are in fact, Composite cables with RCA connectors, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Composite plus RCA. RCA is not a cable in itself, but rather another free connector of a fully functioning cable made useful by the RCA connectors, Composite signal and vital RCA inputs comprising a full connection as defined by anon.
>>
>>3389937
>Hello sir and welcome to Best Buy my name is Jamal how can I help you today.

>Erm hello Jamal, I am seeking a coaxial cable transmitting a composite signal with RCA connectors.
>>
>>3389957
What's wrong with that besides the Islamic name of the shop keeper?
>>
>>3389910
Because in this day and age only people that still use them frequently(small amount of the population) would know what I mean by "composite cable." Say it and get blank stares, say rca cable and they're like "oh, the old yellow, red and white cables." Most people have started to refer to VCRs as VHS players in casual conversation. I'd rather use an incorrect term people understand than use the proper term and have to spend more time trying to get my message across. You'd know what I meant if I said rca cables to you, even though you'd act like you don't and then act like I'm an idiot because I didn't use a proper term after making me explain to you what I meant when you already knew, just to appear smarter than me.

The proper term matters less than conveying the right idea, words change over time.
>>
>>3389968
If people don't know what composite means they won't know what RCA means.

that guy who calls RCA cables "composite cables"

dork.
>>
>>3389978
They'd have probably known what composite means.
>>
>>3389980
RCA is a connection type, so YPbPr component cables could, by the same merit, be called 'RCA cables'.
>>
>>3389982
I have no idea what a YPbPr cable is. if something has RCA connections at one end, I'm going to call it an RCA cable.

Do what you like though, nerd.
>>
>>3389986
So how would you differentiate between an RCA YPbPr component cable and an RCA composite cabel?
>I have no idea what a YPbPr cable is
Why are you here?
>>
>>3389981
Nope, cause I'll mention that at some point in the conversation. Deer in the head lights. Only people that know are people into high quality video and audio from way back, tech guys, and gaymers. That's a small percentage of the people I know.
>>
>>3389993
Then stop talking to idiots/.
>>
>>3389998

>>

People use "Kleenex" as a generic name for tissues.
People use "Coke" as a generic name for sodas.
People use "Clorox" as a generic name for bleach.
People use "Nintendo" as a generic name for video games.

This shit happens all the time. I don't know why this particular instance has put a bug up your butt.
>>

>>

I'll agree with this.
>>

No one in america uses composite scart cables or composite transmitted in any other way

rca=composite in america

>but component cables have rca connectors
doesnt fucking matter when we have a different name for the cable, which is ypbpr or component.

Not once have I ever used RCA to describe composite video cables. So, if RCA is composite then what is component?

Kurwa.

RF is composite with heavy noise(snow) covering the screen, shaking of the image as if it was interlaced, and monoized audio with chopped frequency range.

The good news is that you can fix your eyesight and hearing by inserting the RF cable into your eyes and ears.

So, what are the non-color-coded audio cables with RCA connectors used on old record amps? Why can I use the cables with RCA connectors intended and color-coded for composite video interchangeably with those intended for component video or for audio if they are separate and distinct entities? What is the cable with an RCA connector that comes form the back of an Atari 2600 and sends an RF signal, and why does it make no difference if I use any of the above-mentioned cables as an extension?

Composite specifically refers to the video signal, so should we make sure to distinguish that the cluster of identical copper wires with RCA connectors contain not only component or composite video, but also stereo audio, when referring to the cable cluster?

A VHS player and a VCR are different.

VCRs must record and can be for any type of tape (VHS, betamax, dvcam, VCR (yep, theres a videotape cassette format called VCR, Video Casette Recording), etc). My betamax VCR has "VCR" on the front of it.

VHS players were tapedecks that played VHS casettes. However they lacked the ability to record, so they're technically not VCRs.
>>
>>3390469
RF stands for "radio frequency". It is how TV signals were transmitted before cable. Analog radio waves that would be picked up by an antana.

What youre doing when you use RF on a console is converting a digital picture to an analog picture (composite) then converting that to simulated radio waves.
