Big Box thread?

I love collecting big box games. The hardest bit is my budget.
I try to buy big box pc games whenever I see them, though I don't see them that often anymore. 10 years ago they were all over the place.
Wish I had that Counter-Strike box.
Honestly, I don't know about you, but where I live big box PC games are the only video game related stuff you can still find at flea markets, and for a good price.
The retro trend is mostly a console one, and resellers don't go for big boxes.
I've got quite a few over here but I'll never get over my mother throwing away the big boxes of Duke Nukem 3D, Life's A Beach add-on, and Resident Evil 2 when I moved out, even though they were displayed as trophies in my old room.
These lasts 2 are pretty rare and expensive.
Why is his not on Steam?
Why did PC games came in such massive boxes? Most of the time there was nothing inside that required such a big package.

You're spending upwards of $60 USD for a few diskettes or maybe a CD. You need to convince the consumer that there's some value.

The manuals were usually huge.
I tried selling a few of my old big box PC games to a local retro game store. I didn't bring the best stuff, I just wanted to test the waters of selling off my stuff first. They wouldn't accept any except for Terminator: Rampage, which I don't think I even got a single US dollar in credit. I debate if it would feel better to just destroy some of the ones I don't want than get the pennies they are worth (Eternam, Return to Zork, etc. which the store refused). However, I still keep the ones I like to this day just because they are fond memories.
As for the pic, I know I am missing Power Dolls, which I want.

lol you can still buy these on amazon
>>3387293
don't bother with selling to retro stores
you need to find big box collectors, which sadly are people 30+. no one younger is going to want old PC games they can just pirate. the reason we have these is because we are some of the last to have memories of them before the change to dvd cases.

I got over selling my stuff, only poor experiences doing so, and thus I've turned into a hoarder. I do see the charm in all these big box games I do have, I am just more concerned my income is so poor that I'll be unable to maintain a space to store them, and I do understand they are practically worthless, and only meaningful to me, because they were mine. I cannot tell if my current area has too many big box collectors or none at all, local used bookstore chain has a few big box games in each location, but never anything notable.

just hit up facebook pages, there are lots of them

Sadly, I do not facebook or Pokémon Go , or whatever the kids do these days. What I meant by my last post was "either there are other big box collectors buying up all the good stuff, or no one ever bought any to be sold in my area"

>>Ultima VIII Box. Not the CD release with the gamebreaking bugs patched.
You poor man :(

I heard the boxes were big so they would fit on shelves previously made for records.
Same reason why dvd boxes are bigger than the disc, they were made to fit on shelves made for vhs tapes.
I have a bunch of PC game boxers from 1999 and onward. I'm to lazy to take pictures. Most of them are in great condition, if not some have a little damage. My mother made fun of me for keeping them, but I always knew it was worth it as a kid.

just fucking do it, jesus christ. you have nothing to lose and money to gain.

Not a big box.

This.
Spend 2 seconds to make a facebook profile so they can go to someone who will appreciate them.
Or just list them in lots on ebay.
Just dont trash them bro.

this
dude, ultima underworld 1 is fucking $100 complete in the box
Any one have a scan of those Sierra booklets advertising their games ? I had at least two but somehow lost them.
>>3387987
Thats a bit high.
Id say, if its 100% with all feelies and shit in near mint condition, between 75 and 100.
Missing feelies or pamphlets or not near mint, closer to 40-55.

Why is the CS box American?
>>3388027
im just quoting internet prices from places i know
its not my fault they say 100 for CIB, that meaning all the stuff that came with it sans tiny shit like feedback cards and warning pamphlets

Stop blindly using vgpc for anything other than loose prices.
