In 4047 the cult classic 2D Sprite-based RPG "Retro Retro Happy Happy Love Love Fight Fight Girl Princess" was released. Several billion years later at the end of the universe the last person to cease to exist was some fucking weeb. Why do people like GS? Even younger me that ate up JRPGs (and was quite enthralled by the psychic abilities aspect) thought this was subpar back then. It's ugly and there are just much better games. The battle perspective they got out of the GBA is about the only thing impressive about it.

Not really JRPG specifically. WRPGs have an almost 100% rate of having bland as fuck, LITERALLY zero personality main characters so you can self-insert. WRPGfags start sobbing into their Cheetos if they even have some kind of character background "forced" upon them, like being a parent in FO4 or even having to have a last name like in ME or DA2.

JRPGs can go either way, but even at their blandest they give them more soul than any WRPG main character I can think of ("out of the box" as it were, obviously you can make up whatever personality you like for anything - I can pretend the chair I'm sitting on is really an exiled Martian prince).
