I've become somewhat addicted to Galaga, both at bars that my band plays and on Namco Museum on my PS1 emulator. Any other Shmups you can reccomend? I tried Raiden but honestly that game is bullshit. Your ship moves too slow and is pretty much entirely reliant on power-ups.

Start it up
Enjoy tons of shmups.
INCLUDING Fever SOS

Cho Ren Sha 68K I suppose.
There are a good amount of power ups but the game is totally doable without them.

Try MUSHA on Sega OP.

He already said he doesn't like 16 bit games.
Gorf

Wow, really? Something like Xevious then, maybe? 1942?
Summer Carnival 92 Recca is an anomaly on the NES
Also, Life Force.
>>3371365
No just play other golden age arcade games
>>3371365
xevious I guess, I would say parodius or fantasy zone but you don't like 16 bit... 1942 and 1943 maybe? sonson might work but I'm not sure that's a shmup.
Maybe try millipede?
Crisis Force on NES is pretty rad

OP here. I was pretty drunk when I wrote that. What I meant is the vibe of Galaga 88 didn't sit right for me. MUSHA looks kind of dope though.

Have you played Space Harrier? I strongly recommend giving it a try if not. It's similarly simple but sublimely wonderful action.
>>3371365
Gyruss
It's Galaga mixed with Tempest.

check this one out

I just started playing Solar Striker, it's surprisingly good
Op here. I am trying to get into dondonpachi. It's really cool but sometimes I've noticed bullets will go right through me and sometimes they'll destroy my ship and I can't figure out why. The hit detection is just wierd.
>>3371365
>I tried Raiden but honestly that game is bullshit.
just kys my man
stopped reading right there
i mean, you're right, it's more reliant on powerups, but come on, it's still good.
just play ikaruga, more your style, nopowerups
>>3375558
Your hitbox is really small.
Like, really really small.
>>3375595
Like I said earlier I was really drunk when I wrote that. The game isn't "bullshit" but I do feel like it's too reliant on powerups, it seems to be more about having the right powerups than dodging shit.

Gyruss on NES is an almost Tempest style space shooter. Really fun, especially if you have an NES Advantage.
I've taken a liking to the Strikers 1945 and the Psikyo games that use the same engine.
Is there going to be a SHMUP general again? I'd start one myself but I don't have the OP template, I can't find an archive and the last one 404'd
>>3377585
There is one in /vg/
>>3375558
Hitbox was made smaller to increase the satisfaction of dodging more bullets, which themselves also have smaller hitboxes. Try Esp Ra.De. or Guwange if you like Dodonpachi.
