The Dreamcast has always been my favourite console, what do you guys remember about it if you had any memories?
>>
If I had any memories I would recommend Super Magnetic Neo but I can't remember ever playing that game : /
>>
>>3371357
Never heard of it, but it seems cool
>>
I remember using the internet browser in the wee hours of the morning. I went on chat rooms, looked up cheat codes, and I remember looking up .wav files of farts online.
But one memory that stuck out for me was I stumbled across an H-site. I don't remember what it was called, it was similar to The Citadel of Lost Love or something. The disclaimer at the entry page was real unique. If I could recall the page went along the lines of a mysterious stranger in a trenchcoat greeting you. He tells you of secret place to where only those of 18 or above were allowed. I was so scared of selecting yes, but when I did I was exposed to hentai for the first time.
If I could ever find that site again though, it has some of the first pics I fapped to. It really did feel like this site just came and disappeared like that mysterious shop down the street.
>>
>>3371393
Damn I was never able to get into the online dreamcast stuff, born to late. But it sounds/looks amazing. Hopefully we find the Trenchcoat Hentai site
>>
>>3371397
I hope so too, along with a movie where I saw my first boobs. I just want some closure whether it existed or not.
>>
>>3371416
I still remember the exact porn I first ever watched, but it wasn't on some weird website
>>

What's a good price for a Dreamcast? Been wanting to buy one for a while
>>
>>3371770
Not sure what they are priced at now a days, but I have seen them priced around $30
>>
Does anyone know if the black ones are "rare" I like the way it looks but not really interested in spending much more for it
>>
>>3371770
This. I haven't really owned the console before, I just knew it from emulating Shenmue a couple of months ago and I'm planning on getting one just to replay the game.

I saw one for ~$60 I don't know if it's a good price or not and oh, it doesn't come with a box which is somehow a dealbreaker I don't know if I should get it or not, finding a working one in my country is a pain in the ass.
>>
>>3371965
The black ones aren't really "rare" but they're less common than the originials.
>>
>>3371770
It really depends. I live in Canada so everything is expensive as shit, but I got 3 Dreamcast controllers, 2 VMU's the Dreamcast itself and sonic adventure 1 for about $90.
>>
Funny that I should browse this thread just before I found and purchased a 2nd Dreamcast. It was $100 CAD for the system with the box, 2 controllers, a VMU, mouse, keyboard, 12 mostly good games, and some demo discs.

Not a bad deal seeing as the local shops are selling the system alone for $90 where I live.
>>
>>3372196
Wow what a deal man, I live in an expensive area so everything is expensive around here, especially the Dreamcast, so I have to stop collecting Dreamcast at the moment. But I hope to get back into it really soon.

>get SD-card adapter for Dreamcast so that I don't need to strain the laser with homebrew discs
>most games don't work
>handful of games launch, but only few of them are playable
>the ones that are playable have awful stuttering in the cutscenes and videos because the adapter can only move data so fast

What a great investment.

Depends which Dreamcast model you're looking for. PAL Dreamcast consoles can be preddy expensive because it was less common in PAL areas, and thus it's kind of a semi-rarity.
Though I guess it doesn't really matter nowadays which area Dreamcast you get because you can always just use adapters and whatnot and those are really cheap.
>>
>>3371770
OP did say about sharing memories with the Dreamcast, it didn't necessarily have to be about video games.
>>
>>3372239
the laser meme is exactly what it is. ive had no problems playing burned games ever and have had my same dreamcast for 5 years

Continuing on with this find, the lot included Sonic Adventure Limited Edition. Today has been a good day.

I remember selling my ps1 to buy a Dreamcast. All my friends kept playing on their ps1. I became a loner because they never really got impressed by smooth framerate or better graphics, so they all kept talking about ps1 and exchanging games between them.. Then I struggled getting games for my DC, it was really hard to find a place where they sold Dreamcast games (most stores sold only ps1 and Nintendo 64 games). Then I became dissapointed about gaming and started to get into different activities. I had played games since fucking Atari, had a NES then SNES, then the ps1. Eventually found new friends who were not into gaming. So I skipped ps2 and xbox console generation as well as ps3 and xbox360 generation. Years later (last year) bought an xbox 360 and started gaming again, thanks to the low prices in games I made myself with like 40 great 360 games. Started playing like mad again, remembered how much I enjoyed playing. Last month got a ps4, not using the 360 anymore, just wanted to know what I had missed from that generation (no regrets). My old Dremcast got yellowish, it stopped working many years ago. I have ambivalent feelings towards it, it gave me joy while I used it, but it also made me quit gaming for more than 10 years.
>>
My little brother and I watched one on display at a mall long ago. We had a giggle as Sonic the Hedgehog drowned himself in the ocean over and over because the controller was broken and the buttons were fucked.

I was always about a console generation behind until late into the PS2, my first console was a toplaoder NES bought in 94-95. The 360 was the first console I was able to buy near launch.

This however did afford me the opportunity to play a lot of games by buying and selling them at swap meets and flea markets. I bought a used Dreamcast in the early 00s for about $40 and the guy threw in a VMU and a copy of JSR and Code Veronica

I spent most of that summer playing whatever games I could get my hands on and searching for anything that seemed interesting by researching on that weird transition period the internet was going through around 2004.

I never did get around to playing Maken X though
>>
>>3371393
It was a dream, casted by the console.
>>
>>3371965
I don't think they're rare, but I saw that as the only version I own. (sega sport edition right?)

I got mine around 2008 at a garage sale for $15 with 3 games 1 demo disc and 2 controllers (no memory cards though). Probably the last time I found any vidya worth a damn at a garage sale...
>>
It was the first console I bought myself. My friend down the street had one and I was blown away by it. I remember saving up like $70, walking into Electronics Boutique and buying a used DC in the original box. I basically bought it right as it was discontinued and continued to buy used games for $5-10 for years to come. All my friends had moved onto the PS2 and GCN, but I fucking loved my DC. Still one of my all time favorite consoles, and my first still works.
>>
>>3373687
I wish it were true Carlos, but getting the talk by my mom when she looked through the browser history says otherwise.
>>
>>3375568
rip
>>
Got a DC around 2001, played mostly fighting games, I got it with SNK vs Capcom.
Othat than that, I feel like I didn't play all the good stuff it had to offer, I played the big games like Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, but I never played some of the more obscure stuff which I later found out, like Bangai-O or Tech Romancer.
I sold my DC sometime in 2003, I was already playing stuff on Gamecube and PC, and had PS2 lent by friends, eventually i bought a ps2 of my own, but I never bought a DC back. It was a nice console, kinda wish I didn't sell it. But those short years with her were sweet.
>>
What was the beat em up style game where you could pick up weapons? Powerstone I think? That was great. Also House of the Dead and the game where you play as a taxi driver. That was a good system, but there was too much saturation with Sony and Microsoft getting involved. It's a shame really.
>>
>>3375585
Yep Power Stone, I also love typing of the dead, and you're talking about Crazy Taxi. Fun great game. One of the few games I own for the system currently.
>>
>>3371770

I picked up a yellowed one on ebay for $35 recently.

Considering picking up one that's not yellow, they seem to be around ~$50 ish
>>
My CD drive don't want to read disks, either originals nor copies, last year I could play with a few problems (had to open/close tray a few times for re-read before it could properly read the disks), now it just won't read it regardless of what I do, I've had it since 2001 so that's like 15 years with my DC, is there something I can do about it? None of that SD adapter shit, something that can actually "revive" the drive of something
>>
>>3375838
Fuck I shouldn't type while sleepy, that was awful. Hopefully that was understandable to some degree.
>>
>>3375838
Take it in for repairs or give it to somebody who knows what they're doing, I'm sure you can find some stuff online but be careful you don't fuck up that Dreamcast. For every Dreamcast that breaks I shed another tear.
>>
I remember all the chinese and japanese games my dad would get off the internet from forums back in the day because it was cheaper. Only game I had in English was Sonic Adventure, my father contributed to the Dreamcasts death.

I played some good shoot them ups on it though, I'd love to own one again.
>>
>>3375838
There's a way you can increase the power of the laser with a turn of a few screws.

http://retro-hack.blogspot.fi/2010/06/sega-dreamcast-laser-calibration-guide.html

I did a similar thing with my Xbox 360 that also had disc reading problems and now it works fine (though I obviously used a different guide).

Thank you lads and don't worry, I only have a PS1 and a Dreamcast so I'm treating them with extra care nowdays.
>>
>>3373679
Do you have giant versions of this? I want to frame it on my wall.
>>
Huge Sega kid but couldn't afford one when it launched, had to watch it crash and burn. By the time I COULD afford to buy my own consoles, they were practically throwing the (preowned) games away in the UK, still can't believe what I paid for some -
> Skies of Arcadia £5
> Shenmue 1 & 2 £5 each
> Powerstone 2 £5
> Crazy Taxi £2
> JSR £2
> Rival Schools £6
> MvsC2 £10
> Soul Caliber 50p
> Tech Romancer £4
> HotD2 0.50p

Had genuinely awesome times winning friends over to the DC once I got one (Powerstone2 Four-Player got pretty legendary), but I still feel guilty about how little I got those games for.
>>
Anyone mess around with dreamshell and the hard drive? Was thinking about doing it with a dream cast my buddy found in his basement. Laser is done but it seems fine otherwise. GDemu is an option but not in the near future
>>
I've never had an issue burning images to disc, but I cannot for the life of me get MDK2 to burn and play properly. Last thread Google pointed me to was from 2001, so I'm at a loss. Can somebody help me out? I've used multiple images, most recent was this: http://theisozone.com/downloads/dreamcast/dreamcast-isos/mdk2---dcres-ntsc-u-w-pal-patch/

On a side note, PSO sure was bitchin'.
>>
>>3371770
I gave away a dreamcast, controller memory card and a couple of games to the local game shop and they gave me 30. Im assuming everyone else here is right that buying a dreamcast without all that stuff should be between 30 and 40 dollars.

DC's analog triggers were a new thing and made racing simulation games VERY realistic.
