Mario Golf is fun. It's probably like Mario Kart isn't exactly the same as most racing games but it made me appreciate golf. According to what I read about it it's gameplay is based a lot on Hot Shots Golf for the playstation but I never played that so I can't tell if it's true or not.

Gameplay is the same yes. They're very similar games except Hot Shots obviously has no Mario characters and different courses.

Neo Turf Masters is one of the greatest games ever made. Microsoft Golf/Links is pretty good, too.

Neo Turf Masters is why I bought a Neo Geo CD, honestly one of the best arcade games ever made. No other sports game quite does it for me. The Pocket port is quite nice too if you don't mind the chibi graphics.
