it's interesting how good SNK was at the whole global diversity thing.

For a long time their biggest hero was pure American. None of this 3/4th Japanese crap and they even had the whole universe bet set in Southtown USA before going international with KOF.

And yeah they got the usual YOUNG JAPANESE HERO thing going now there's still a shit town of Americans, a shit town of Hispanics, plenty of Koreans, a Canadian or two, some Italians etc

Hey, there is that Tekken stage. And we do get lots of mentions in eroge and stuff.

But yeah, how exactly would you make a Finnish character for fighting game? There's not exactly lots of concrete stereotypes that could be used, compared to lots of other countries.
Maybe a grumpy forest dweller that gets drunk?

Anna and Nina Williams are the only fighting game characters from my country (Ireland) that I can think of right now. You'd think there would be more, given how stereotypical these games usually are and how easy it would be insert a fiery haired, beer guzzling pub brawler into practically any fighting game series. I suppose I should be happy at least that the Williams sisters are so devoid of stereotyping that nobody even knows they're Irish until they look at their bios.

>French vidya character

>German vidya character
Is always from Berlin, Germany

>Japanese vidya character
Is always from Tokyo, Japan

>Spanish vidya character
Is always from Madrid, Spain

>Indian vidya character
Is always from Bombay/Mumbai

>Russian vidya character
Is always from Moscow, Russia

>Turkish vidya character
Is always from Istanbul, Turkey

>Irish vidya character
Is always from Dublin, Ireland

>etc...
I'm sure you see the pattern by now

>meanwhile
American vidya character #1 is from New York, USA
American vidya character #2 is from Los Angeles, USA
American vidya character #3 is from Philadelphia, USA
American vidya character #4 is from San Francisco, USA
American vidya character #5 is from Chicago, USA
American vidya character #6 is from Detroit, USA
I'm sure there are shitload of other American vidya characters from other/smaller cities as well

Now I know that neither Americans or Japanese are exactly interested about world beyond their own borders but would it be wrong to expect them to know more than one city from other countries?

SNK are pretty good about all of those when they specify where a character lived, actually.

>French Character
Vice is rumored to be from Marseilles, Ash Crimson is thought to be from Grenoble.

>Japanese Character
Yamazaki's from Okinawa.

>Spanish Character
Laurence Blood from the Fatal Fury games is from Pamplona.

>German Character
Wolfgang Krauser from the Fatal Fury series lives in a bootleg version of Neuschwanstein Castle, near Fussen.

Also, you forgot one:

>English vidya character
Is always from London, England

I don't really see the problem. I mean, Spain's not that large, where else do you want them to be from that is recognizable to everyone? Yes? That's why they all died out and we were left with SF and KoF for years and years until ASW gave us GGX/BB.
