>The shmup stage on higher difficulties is such a nightmare without the lightning saber (fire+lightning) that unless you're extremely good at it, you're better off just restarting until you can get it from the weapons at the start. I've never even made it as far as Seven Force without it.
>Stage 5 kind of sucks in general. It's long, repetitive, has no checkpoint, and soldiers randomly throw you and do 20 damage.
>Title screen goes to demo in about 3 seconds, which is kind of annoying in general, but the worst part is that you can't chill out and listen to that jammin' title screen music unless you use the sound test.

I played this game with homing + lightning during my entire childhood and never I've seen any reason to play with anything else.

Still my personal favorerite game, flaws and all. Personally I like the combat since I love the simple DQ style battles but I could see some not liking it.

That's easy mode though, I know since I can't beat the game without it. The levels are fine but some of the bosses like seven force and gold silver always kick ass.
