Needs a touch up

Anyone have any experience emulating super metroid on gba? Judging by some youtube videos I can be done, but whenever I compile a rom wiyh pocketsnes I get messed up backgrounds that make the game unplayable.

I feel like the whole Samus and the Baby Metroid thing was a load of shit from the very start.

I don't think Samus spared it because she suddenly felt remorse for killing every other Metroid in the galaxy. She immediately hands it over to the federation in good faith.

Then when they're reunited the infant Metroid is huge, and suddenly remembers Samus, and defends her from Mother Brain. Why? Because "Hey thanks for not killing me, and giving me away to these science people", the only explanation I can think of for that is that it thought Samus was it's mother, like some kind of duckling.

I like Metroid, I am playing Prime for the first time. Have had it in my backlog for years.
The I have beaten the NES and SNES ones many times since the 90s, never played the Game Boy one since Ive been told it is bad and linear.

Never played the GBA ones because one is a remake of a game I have beaten many times, and the other one I read pretty much tells you were to go.

Super Metroid is one of the best games ever.

Conceptually I'm okay with her wearing dresses just as long as she isn't portrayed as some slackjawed short girl yessing everything up. She's still a woman...ish genetically modified bird hybrid genocide machine.

Though her dress would be better if it didn't have tacky ass gigantic jewels and earrings or off pastel colors from the zero suit. Her dress should be at least as bold and sleek as she is. I never got around to playing the demo until tonight.

Downloaded and completed it in one setting. That demo was fucking outstanding! I'm super hype. I was not expecting that level of quality, I figured it'd be a mostly 1:1 port with super/zero mission level graphics.

That atmosphere, man its tense and oppressive even for a Metroid game. I got some genuine dread walking into a room that I just knew a boss was probably in. And the metroids themselves have really good AI, not afraid to play defense (although I figured out how to fuck over the little metroids by about the 2nd or 3rd encounter).

Really surprised and impressed by the mechanics in the water plant area too. Great level design all around.

I really hope that Sakamoto, who is allegedly the creator of the series, isn't working on the series any more.

He was the director on the early games including Super Metroid, but apparently he works best when backed up by a good dev team and producers like Gunpei Yokoi.

The thing is that somewhere along the way he got some kind of god complex about the whole series and suddenly thought he was the hottest shit since Hideo Kojima, leading to astoundingly stupid decisions like his insistence on voice directing all the English voice actors in Other M, despite not speaking a word of English.

IIRC Zero Mission hard mode makes enemies deal more damage, and missile/bomb expansions give you less ammo. I can't remember if energy tanks also give you less health or if you deal less damage.

So if you find normal mode too easy, I guess you could give hard a shot if you like.

Start with Zero Mission. It's not the worst, but it's a good place to get familiar with the series. It has prime sensibilities in some areas of gameplay, making it the easiest game to get in to. Good fucking luck though when you get to Norfair, that guided nonlinearity you get from the start is thrown out the window. It's about the point for you to decide if you like the series or not.
Then go for Super as there are not as many QoL changes and it's basically a 2D Dark Souls. If you made it through Normal in Zero Mission but found it easy, here you can test your meddle.
Fusion isn't the best, but it should be left for last. Exploration is much more linear but the action is balls to the walls, or at least as close to it in the medium. You better have taught yourself to cheat the hitboxes after both games, you are gonna need it.
