I just spent $220 on this lot of old games and systems. I was mostly interested in the Atari 7800 but the other stuff is a sort-of bonus.
None of them are confirmed to be working but I'm a gambling man and tinkering around with a bunch of old stuff is going to be pretty dope.
Do you guys think I got a decent deal?

I'd say it was a decent deal. Nothing amazing, but decent.
No games for the master system? I think you got hosed, but that's just like, my opinion. Pitfall 2 was one of the first games I ever played.
looks like musty basement damage. not trying to be a salty fuck but it doesn't seem like a deal from here.
>>3342582
Also, robotron 2048 is fucking sick.
>>3342582
Yeah, I don't have a Master System, used to have a power base converter but it's not the same.
Hopefully it works and I can pick up a few good games and that crazy ass VR headset.
>>3342584
As long as they're not too damaged to play I'm cool with it.
>>3342524
And can anyone tell what that middle console is above the trackball? I think it's an Atari Jr. or a 5200.
Looks like a pretty good lot to me OP, provided everything actually works. That's a pretty decent selection of 2600 games that aren't super common.
>>3342524
pretty okay deal i guess.
master systems are like $60~ alone. get a master everdrive for it cause master system is the shit.
>>3342524
You got cucked hard. All the Atari shit is worth like $80 absolute maximum.
Did you buy it on eBay? I'll assume. If so, probably should have gone for tested ones. As-is, as it is it's quite an interesting assortment of pre-NES consoles with decent representations of 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen.
For reference, Master Systems have a game built in and will work with 2600 joysticks, you just won't actually be able to play probably because no button 2 but you can check if it works before you invest anything in it,
>>3343149
>80 for a 7800, 2600 Jr and all those games for both
How are you posting from 2004?
>>3343326
It's still an easy yard-sale pickup which tbqh is what I expected to read when I came in the thread considering the barn-find condition. If so, I was still going to remark what an interesting assortment of consoles it was - like something somebody's 99 year old parents have had stored since he went off to college in 1986.
atardi's are still hunks of junk that aren't that collectible these days, mostly cause the dingleberry's who grew up with this shit are already conked out or blind and senile and thus can't jack up the prices :D
>>3343441
>>3343449
I know these are troll posts but come on now. I didn't even play an Atari until maybe three years ago but that shit is great.
>>3343378
>easy yard sale pickup
I could go to hundreds of yard sales and never find this stuff. Most people these days know retro games aren't worthless and would more likely put something like this on craigslist, which is where I'm guessing OP found it.
>>3342609
you'd know if it was a 5200, it would take up half of the image.
>>3343449
pretty weak troll, atari has some real fun games on it and I haven't even played half of the ones I see talked about on here.
Personally OP, I feel like you overpaid a bit based on condition. Still, a nice assortment. Hope you enjoy them.
>>3343561
Fine, Craigslist then but I still was expecting like half the price OP paid.
>>3342524
If that's what $220 buys these days I'm glad I already collected everything I really wanted a few years ago. A lot of that stuff looks like junk, is any of it tested?
As for the games, the only stuff worth some coin in there is Rampage, Alien, Mario Bros. and Pitfall 2. The others are just 1 to 3 dollar games.
The Atari 2600 games are next to worthless.
That Master System is junked and is worth nothing unless it works flawlessly, has controllers, and all the hookups.
the 7800 is eh.
>>3342524
wtf?!
That in my country would cost at least 500 $. At least, if not more if you sell it individually
>>3343864
You can buy it off Ebay and have someone ship it internationally. A 7800 is worth 25 USD, the Master System is worth 35-45 USD.
>>3343864
let me guess. Australia? the cuck of continents
>>3343865
200% tax for technology import + shipping cost + normal taxes for import + paying the post office. 1st 2nd and 3rd gen are expensive here and not common anon. Even if you buy it in ebay.
All that shit do that only ressellers buy thigs over ebay and sell them way overpriced
>>3343876
No, Costa Rica
>>3343881
Ain't none of that with PayPal m8.
>>3343887
nope, they'll make you pay the taxes to retire the product. That happens with anything thats technology or books as they're "luxury" goods
>>3343678
I'm more than willing to bet you've never owned an Atari.
>>3343819
Star wars arcade goes for more than all of those.
>>3343945
You'd be extremely wrong.
Am I correct in thinking a 7800 is a better deal than a 2600? 7800 is backwards compatible so you get a larger library.
>>3344284
If it's one or the other, then yeah; get the 7800.
>>3344306
Is there any reason not to get the 7800?
>>3344310
I've got my original heavy sixer, a darth, a junior and a 7800. The difficulty switches are bigger and sturdier on the sixer, and about the same on the rest. Other than that, no.
>>3343378
Game collectors have already picked up most of the yard sale finds. People have also wised up and check ebay before pricing their yard sale items. While finding good deals is still possible, its increasingly unlikely.
>>3344343
This. People used to get good deals on yard sale stuff because nobody had a way to check how much that stuff was worth unless they knew someone or were a collector themselves. Now everyone has a smartphone in their pocket, so combine that access with the amount of "your old games might be worth 14k" articles and tv shows like pawn stars and storage wars that make everyone think they have hidden gold in their basement and you don't have the same "this old junk isn't worth a thing" mentality people did just six or seven years ago. The idea that retro games can potentially be valuable is pretty deep-seated now, people think they can get money for games simply BECAUSE they're old.
>>3344306
There's one VCS game known to not work on the rev 1 7800 so they fixed it on rev 2 but their fix broke compatibility with like 2 games. It's easy to put in a switch on the rev 2 to disable/re-enable their revision though. I'm sure you could add it pretty easily to the rev 1. Iirc correctly it's Dark Chambers that was incompatible to start with which is a cool game but there's a better version for 7800 anyway.
How does one even hook up a 7800 to a modern tv?
>>3344542
RF to the ant. in jack.
>>3344310
It doesn't have all the switches a regular 2600 would have. For instance, the black & white switch was actually used in game play for a few titles. Games like Space Shuttle and Ghostbusters won't even boot up on a 7800.
So a few games won't work and you'd think that's not a problem, but some of the most interesting games are the ones that use all the switches on the console.
>>3343561
>>3343678
OP here. For anyone wondering, I bought it on Ebay and it hasn't got here yet, so there's a possibility it is all damaged and won't play. Here's hoping it's not.
I may have got robbed but I'm pretty excited about the purchase and playing it all nonetheless.
As for the Master System being worthless, I already have a few games/controllers (which I found at a pawn shop awhile back) for it and all the hookups for a Genesis 1 which will make it a complete system. Provided it works...
I'm looking forward to expanding my collection and spending a lot of time in the man cave.
>>3344717
Man cave part 2. Part 3 is in the works.
>>3342524
Are you gonna play with them?
if yes
then you got a fair deal.
If not
GTFO.
>>3344717
Nice collection you and your wife have.
>>3344586
Cpuld you expand on this? The atari I grew up with is still at my mom's and I haven't tried to play it in recent years because of that. The only port on the back I remember is what looks like an 1/8 stereo jack. Idk which model it is. Probably has 6 or 8 switches and wood panelling.
>>3344872
>>3344872
The 1/8" jack that looks like a headphone is DC in (power) the RF jack looks like a single phono (RCA/Composite) jack. Just use a decent phono cable you should have lying around with one of these on your coaxial input on your TV. Technically a "phono to f-type" but f-type is often called coax because of it's association with that cable type.
>>3344717
If it all works perfect you still got robbed.
>>3345141
Its called RCA connector.
F is a type of coax connector.
>>3347045
It's called phono. People refer to it as RCA since they created it. The f-type connector is indeed usually used on the end of coaxial cable as I said but in this application Anon will just be adapting a phono ("RCA") cable to plug into the F-type ("Coax") RF input on his TV using the adapter I posted. Alternately he could use the opposite adapter on the Atari side to run a coax cable which might protect better against interference. Most people prefer to do it with a phono cable though since they're more common and more flexible.
