Bonus points if it looks nightmarish to use but is actually comfy as fuck, pic very much related
>>

This controller sucks, the d-pad alone makes me wanna kill myself.

Saturn 3D controller is far superior.
>>
>>3332614
The d-pad is shit
The analog stick is shit (moves too far in all directions)
Shape of the back forces you to curve your hand extremely
The triggers are finger tiring
The cord comes out the bottom
The memory cards require batteries
>>
The D-pad is sharp as fuck and cuts into my thumb. The shoulder buttons are cramped. Only 4 face buttons? Start is inconveniently placed. Why is the cord coming out of the bottom? About the only thing the DC controller did well was having 2 slots for a rumble pack and a memory card at the same time. The VMU was also a neat idea. Too bad it drained batteries quicker than a toilet flush.

I bet you're real good a stroking cocks, lad.
>>
The Dreamcast controller is great, but the triggers on the back suck if you have bigger hands. You have to wrap your fingers around them and push them with the middle part of your finger, you cant really use your finger tips.
>>
>>3332671
>The memory cards require batteries
This ain't 1999 anymore.

Comfy to hold
Painful to fucking use

The only console where I much preferred the third party options.

What's really confusing is that they already perfected it with the Saturn 360 pad.
>>
Genesis Sixer
Saturn Sixer
N64, if you don't have autism

Oh and the Dreamcast controller is an abortion of a controller. At least the Saturn 3D controller could say it was a first attempt.
>>
>>3332946
These are my favorite retro controllers too, but I honestly prefer the classic big 3-button genesis controller for games that don't need the extra buttons. I like how its got so much empty space to grab onto.
>>
I quite like it.

Analog stick can lose some of its grip after a few years. The wire out the back is a little odd, but you can strap it through the hole in the front.

The rest is fine for me.
>>
>>3332671
>The memory cards require batteries to use their featured extra functionality
fixed that for ya.

as comfortable as I find the controller, everything else you listed about them is valid. It was on the right track as far as shapes go, but could've used some refinement. If only sega had more time...

2MB, 2715x2240px
N64 is unintuitive, but once you figure out how to hold it it's one of the comfiest pads around
>>
>>3332671
The VMUs don't require batteries unless you want to play that Chao minigame or whatever in Sonic Adventure. They still save games just fine without batteries.

In fact, there were standard non-VMU memory cards available for the DC with extra capacity. They didn't even take batteries.
>>
>>3332825
But isn't that a battery?
>>
>>3333079
He means replacing that battery is much easier nowadays, dingus.
>>
>>3332614
I rubbed my thumb raw playing TXR 2 with this controller.

Was bleeding and in pain, but could not stop playing.

I have mixed feelings on this controller - "amazing" would not be one of those.
>>
>>3333041
Eh, it's comfortable to hold but that analog stick is torture.
>>
>>3332621
>This controller sucks, the d-pad alone makes me wanna kill myself.
Agree with this statement.

Did anyone else have names for the pains controllers would cause? Playstation wrist and Dreamcast thumb were two of the worst. After an hour or more of Soul Calibur, I could barely hold the controller anymore.
>>
>>3334553
I LOVE YOU
>>
>>3334553

D-pad sucks, C-stick is good for camera work but too small for proper twin-stick, and it's missing a few buttons (select. menu/guide, ZL, L3, R3)

Comfy as fuck though, and probably has the best-ever analog triggers.
>>
>>3334593
Yeah, what were they thinking on the d-pad ?
i have no problems with the c-stick.
>>
>>3334593
I never had problems with the d-pad, but what you brought up about the size of the c-stick is valid and I hadn't considered it before.
>>
>>3334553
Not retro though.

It kills me that shitty analog sticks caught on over this for shooters.
>>
>>3334553
>>3334593
I've never understood why the C-stick nub was so small. What would the harm have been in giving it a good grip like the left stick?
>>

Not retro.

That said, I love the GCN controller
Comfy to hold, satisfying face buttons, good analog sticks
The only complaint I have is how shitty the shoulder buttons feel, I can't imagine trying to play an FPS with those

>>
>>3334860
The ball thing can be twisted, pushed and pulled on all axes. You can do with one hand what's done with two analog sticks for player movement in FPS's on modern consoles, and it's entirely natural and an order of magnitude more precise. My brother used one of those to play Forsaken all the time. I tried it for that and also a few times for Half-Life before moving on to mouselook when I got my own computer.

They're not terribly common anymore, and they're a mild pain in the dick to get working on modern OS's, and sadly no one's revived the idea or produced any clones.

These 6dof devices are still around and still produced last I checked, though they've been mostly relegated to 3D modeling and Kerbal Space Program nowadays.
>>
>>3335059
I remember stumbling over loads of them in my futile and 20 year old quest to find a control method for Descent that doesn't suck but they didn't really look viable for gaming. They're also hideously expensive.

>D-pad cuts into my thumb

Game more or something, because the d-pad on consoles prior to the Dreamcast are far sharper

>Shoulder buttons are cramped
Because they are designed to feel like triggers

>Only 4 face buttons?
Yes, not including start.

>Start is inconveniently placed
Your opinion

>Why is the cord coming out the bottom?
Design choice that didn't go over big

>VMUs drain batteries
Who gives a shit.

>Toilet flushes drain batteries
No they don't
>>
>>3338025
>>Toilet flushes drain batteries

Thankfully we have ways to add the GameCube analog stick. It's amazing what people can do with retro controllers recently.

This tends to damage the wire casing; the teeth dig into it.

Also, dat clicking sound as you played the shit out of Match of the Millennium. Ah, the memories.
>>
>>3338106
But the N64 gamecube stick is dogshit. Way to sensitive and imprecise.

I actually bought one and went back to the old and worn out stock.
>>
>>3339623
Well, surely that wouldn't happen unless the game used the D-pad instead of the stick. Z is basically L if you're using the stick.

Flight stick with rumble. Feels soooo good.
>>
>>3332614
Bullshit. I love the Dreamcast but the controller is literally the most hand-destroying crampmaster I've ever held. It sucked.
>>
>>3342959
My 6 year old grand daughter says the same thing. I guess it just doesn't fit well with small girly hands.
>>
>>3343370
I have lanky skeleton hands and it's very uncomfortable for me to use.

>>3341547
I just want a bit more grip on my stick. :^) Maybe like a rubber top or something. Besides that and the poor reliability it's fine.
>>
>>3339831
That's a pile of bullshit though and it's $70+ for one.
>>
>>3339831
Where is Z?
>>
>>3346253
I found Z within a second of attempting to look for it.
>>
>>3346086
I feel it in me bones
>>
>>3334907
This. Anybody that prefered the smaller S controller over it had tiny girl hands. Shit was also indestructible. Bashed it against the floor hundreds of times and still functions perfectly.
>>
>>3346286
In front of R? Like GCN controller?
>>
>>3347528
Yes.
>>
>>3347567
It would have made more sense if it was a second L button instead of R. Most games had Z and L interchangeable since you could only grab d-pad + L or stick + Z.
But I guess it went GameCube design.
