the Skate series was kind of a turn off for me

Technically non-retro, but I picked up THPS2X for the Xbox a few weeks back, and it's easily the best version of 2 (which was my favorite THPS and favorite game already) and also includes every level from 1, including missions (though the score ones are piss easy since you've got the manual), and 5 new levels made for this version, one of which was used as part of the Tampa level from Underground.
Essentially, it's THPSHD 10 years earlier, and actually done right. Highly recommended.

It's definitely playable but due to its arcade style, there isn't much to it.

THPS2 on PC finally got a frame rate uncap + native 32-bit resolution patch. Works pretty well aside from minor issues caused by scripts running more often.

Massive skills, massive lines. Grind and flatland for a minute straight, always start with special meter, increase multiplier, increase base score with quality trucks, always rotate and flip when jumping, special grab of vert ramps and land grinding on a radio, complete lines with huge grabs, two minute-plus lines every run.

Have 7 million on Skatestreet Ventura. Always equip heelflip darkslide, Casper, and pogo air. Layback grind and the other big air too I think. Bind heelflip varial lien etc. to double taps. And skill plus style, always. Trick base scores decrease when you repeat tricks.

Shit's all andythps. Revert is garbage. Spinning while jumping during a grind unbalances you. Destroys one's unique style.
