What is the first handheld console you have ever had? My first one was the Gameboy. Not the advanced, not the small ones, just the big Gameboy with Tetris.
Game Boy Pocket with Pokemon Red.
Noice m8
A purple GBC with Pokemon Blue.
My memory is fuzzy, but it was either a Gameboy Pocket, or a Gameboy Color.
If it was the Gameboy Pocket, it was a gift from my dad, and he also gave me Pokemon Red. It wasn't a special occasion, so I have no idea why he got it for me, we were one of those families that only got video games on Christmas and Birthdays.
If it was the Gameboy Color, my older brother dragged me along to a skate park. They knew I liked vidya, so they showed me this kid who was selling a clear Gameboy Color for $12. To sweeten it, he threw in a Tennis game, Metroid II: The Return of Samus, and Tetris. Come to find out later it was his brother's GBC, but the fat fuck already spent the money at the McDonalds down the street. Thankfully, they let me keep the GBC anyway.
I feel like I got the GBC first, but I also don't remember having any interest in handheld games until pokemon came about, but I can't be sure. It was probably in a time where we didn't have any consoles.
I had some Tigers, so probably one of those, but I honestly can't remember. In terms of one with actual carts, it'd be the original GameBoy. First game was Super Mario Land 2.
Gameboy Pocket with Fall of the footclan
Game Boy Micro w/ Camo faceplate & Gradius. Wish I knew where it was.
Super Game Boy with Pokémon Red probably doesn't count, so I'll go with GBA + Golden Sun. Bought the game two months in advance and by the time I could afford the GBA, the booklet hat literrally disintegrated from how often I had read it.

and forgot pic ofc
Game Boy, i think probably in 1990, with Tetris. I don't remember all of the other games I had with it but I didn't play with it very much. I wish I got more games for it but I didn't even realize its potential until years later
GBA with Monsters Inc. 5 year old me wasn't too impressed by screen which wouldn't let you see shit. Wasn't until I got my DS lite that I was able to fully appreciate the system. When I was 16 I learnt that the solution to the crappy screen was natural sunlight...
Game Boy Color (purple) with A Bug's Life and Wario Land II (GB version)
Neogeo pocket colour with sonic pocket adventure, bio unitron and metal slug second mission.
>Fuck i love my NGPC
Does this count?
So fucking rad
GBC + Pokemon Yellow.

Actual console? Brick GameBoy with Tetris.
Sucker's still going strong, too.
My first was a Game Gear. Mostly just used it to play Master System games with the adapter.
Lime green GBC and Pokemon Red, I think the color was a result of my dad getting a preowned Game Boy to save money and he simply took the one in the best condition. I was 3.
First handheld I bought was a Nomad. I loved it but I couldn't afford to keep taking it places(ate batteries like a mofo).
Next handheld I picked up was the lime gbc w/pk Blue.
red gameboy play it loud with street fighter 2
Game Boy with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
Gameboy Color
Wario Land 3

I found this game so hard back when I got it. Now I take it on road trips for nostalgia and typically beat it in ~40 minutes.
Gameboy Pocket
Pic related is my favorite though

Me too
My parants never really bought handhelds or games, so I grew up on the NES.
Then when I was 8, we had to clean out a relative's house.
While I don't remember the details, but I found a beat up GBA SP with a single game, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (GBC version).
I got to keep it and that was the one game I had for it for about a year, until I got Pokemon Emerald ver.
First played was my mothers original gameboy. She used to be addicted to tetris. Played Tetris, TMNT, Dr. Mario, QIX, Paperboy etc.
Eventually I got Pokemon Blue for it and it was basically mine however the first gameboy that was actually mine was a gameboy advance. Pretty much only played Super Mario World on it. Never quite felt true to the SNES original but was fun nonetheless. I was always super envious of the people who had an SP cause they could play at night.
Original GB with this.
My first handheld was technically pic related. But I did buy a second hand GBA and a few games from a pawn shop in 2003 or 2004.
Atomic purple GBC with this.
I saw the game box first and thought it was the VHS. I had no idea what a "Game Gear" was.
Donkey Kong, Super Mario Land, and Link's Awakening were the start of my addiction.
It was a heavily used Game Gear, sort of a hand-me-down from my older brothers. They are just too kind.
No really, I had a lot of fun with the thing. Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Jurassic Park, and Sonic Triple Trouble were some of the games I had.
1st gen gameboy with Mega Man 2

..subtle.
First was probably pic related someone at school gave me, a Kung Fu Warrior watch, or some Tiger garbage from a garage sale.
For actual carts, it was a Game Boy bundled with Link's Awakening.
