What's a good, FAIRLY easy, turn-based game where you have to map shit out yourself? I really like the idea of video games where you have to make your own maps of everything, but I haven't ever played one, and while mapping in a turn-based game seems comfy, I think mapping in a real-time game sounds stressful. Plus I want to play this while I watch TV in my PJs for maximum comfort, so real-time is out.
Etrian Odyssey series (3DS) has draw-your-own-maps.

It automaps where you've been to a large extent, and isn't retro. But thank you for the recommendation.

You can change that. And not him but EO truly is an excellent series, if you like these kinds of games don't automatically discount it because it's relatively new.
Bards Tale is one of the games I made a lot of maps for. Also Persona on PS1 had some good map making opportunity.

Shining in the Darkness, although it has a very limited automap, sort of (you can use an item to temporarily see part of the dungeon). It's pretty pretty chill and non hardcore.
When I started playing Shining in the Darkness earlier this year it was pretty much a hasstle for me to draw a map with pen and paper. Is there something like a program i can put on my notebook to draw maps EO style while playing on my consoles?
Might and Magic 1.
