ITT: levels you dreaded as a kid but can destroy as an adult

Starting off with Animal Antics in DKC2

was pretty annoying but looking at it now it's not as bad as i thought it was when i was a kid
>>

I found the water temple infinitely easier as an adult, I don't think I ever had trouble with Jabu though.

Sonic 3 Carnival Night Zone.
And no, not because of the fucking barrel. I don't understand how people never figured that out first try, fucking idiots. Those are probably the same retards that whined and cried that Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia was too hard.

Anyway, I just really dislike the whole zone, but I don't have any real problems anymore with it. Maybe it's just the music or something, I know it gets on my nerves. It's as if it's fucking mocking you getting bounced back and forth and all over the damn place.

I agree, Carnival is annoying and not because of the barrel (also figured that out as a kid).
It has a lot of annoying bumpers, that's what ruins it.

Spring Yard is still my favorite pinball-themed Sonic level.
>>
>>3291529
>And no, not because of the fucking barrel. I don't understand how people never figured that out first try, fucking idiots.
You realize most of these people were like 6 years old.
>>
>>3291529
>Those are probably the same retards that whined and cried that Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia was too hard.

You mean the retards who killed Albus, broke the seal on Dracula, get a game over, and say "WAT DO I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?" even though the game outright shows you how you fucked up?
>>
>>3291558
Order of Ecclesia isn't even hard, it's just boring and grindy. The only place with interesting and challenging level design is the bonus dungeon.
>>
>>3291567
>it's just boring and grindy
You just described every IGAvania lmao.
>>
>>3291556
Not those guys, but I was like 8 and figured it out after a while by going with the time-tested logic of "try every button combination until something happens". Can't think where right now, but I get the feeling I had played another game with a similar "arrow keys/d-pad influence object interaction" mechanic somewhere.
>>
This fucking level, still gives me trouble today. Fortunately it doesn't have the worst enemy in the game, those pollen guys that drop on you.
>>
>>3291567
Grindy? Nah, maybe if you want 100% completion but the game isn't that tough. All the best glyphs can be stolen from enemies.
>>
>>3291608
Yeah, when I played it I didn't have guides to look up what glyphs were going to be useful and which ones were garbage so I just tried collecting and leveling most of them. It made for a very boring experience, only made worse by the boring as hell level design. It wasn't hard, it just wasn't very fun for the most part either.
>>
I dreaded Metal Gear Solid as a kid because it was such a shitty game, and I destroyed it as an adult by torching it physically
>>
>>3291396
I still cant get it, whats the secret? Do you let the wind guide you instead of fighting it?

t. guy who blew through 15 savestates on the level
>>
>>3291773
there's a brief time in between when the wind changes directions where it's still. Let go of the control pad when that's about to happen so you don't overshoot massively.
>>
>>3291739
This is why children shouldn't be allowed to play good games. They won't get it and it will stunt their growth so they're stuck as manchildren forever.
>>
>>3291396
millstone mayhem from DKC
i don't really know why, it was just megahard when i was a kid
>>
>>3291396
Fuck yeah man
Animal antics, toxic tower and kreepy krow - fucking hell it must've taken me a billion times as a kid.
Feels good beating them first try as an adult.
Truly, we got gud
>>
all the bosses and shit from CTR. i whoop fuckin ass now.
>>
>>3291529
How the fuck do those two games even relate?
>>
>>3292271
Yeah, that was 2/3 of my hardest as well (insert bramble scramble in place of toxic tower for me), but yeah all hard levels as a kid and we got better

Time is truly the best teacher
>>
>>3291424
It's still hard as balls.

Many of the later levels of Mario 1 and 3, and the entirety of Mario 2 JP

Klobber Karnage and Parrot Panic were the ones that fucked me as a kid. In Toxic Tower I usually struggled at the snake part, but the rest was ok for me.
>>
I literally could not get past that one moving staircase in Chemical Plant Zone 2 in Sonic 2.

Never felt like more of an idiot when I finally replayed it in like 9th grade or so and realized how piss easy it was to bypass.
>>
>>3291468
I actually glitched this level when I first played it that made the game unbeatable. The princess disappeared completely. Tore apart the whole level looking for her.
>>
>>3291396
I always thought that Squawks spat nuts, but that sure looks like an egg... That's some fucked up biology.

This whole game.

I thought it was hard as fuck when I was a kid, but replaying it as an adult, it was an absolute breeze.

I think I legit spent a whole week on one level back in the day. Trashed it in an hour and a half as an adult - and not because I remembered where to go, either. I didn't.

I think it's because as a kid, I didn't fully grasp that the levels and jumps were all basically grid-based and thus 100% predictable.

As soon as you realize that there's basically no good reason to ever fail a jump again.
>>
>>3293223
>As soon as you realize that there's basically no good reason to ever fail a jump again.

Pretty much. People who think of Tomb Raider as a platforming game don't really get it. It's really a 3D puzzler. Aside from the bits in the last couple of levels where you have to time jumps while you're sliding, all the actual jumping is super easy. The meat of the game is figuring out what to do.
>>
>>3291529
>it's a mechanic that shows up once, never shows up again, and, most importantly, gives you imperceptible feedback until you've done it successfully 3 or 4 times
>idiots
>>
>>3291529
Anon, I got bad news for you. I think you've been raped by gypsies when you were a kid. Do you have any memories of visiting carnivals or something of that nature?
>>
>>3292545
Why, are you against the idea of sacrificing your unborn babies in order to murder everyone in your path?

literally kill yourself you fucking gigantic douchebag. Stop posting on /vr/ and never come back. Make us a favor and end yourself. Thanks.

Casino Night has my favorite gameplay out of the pinball-themed levels, but Carnival Night has my favorite graphics out of them.

I was too dumb to realize you can duck under the wire obstacles, so I'd always fall off the gally and then get assfucked by raptors. Funny, nowadays I can barely even beat the game as the raptor, but it's easy with Grant because he has guns.

Strange. Ive gotten worse at videogames now that im an adult.
>>
>>3296080
Nah, you're just aware of your losses.
>>
>>3291529
I agree with this, I was 11 when I played this game and had no problems with the barrel. I have no idea how people didn't try pressing up and down, as if this was their first platformer
